UDIT students exhibit, for the first time, their work at the Royal Tapestry Factory
- The exhibition, entitled 'Gestures', is part of an educational project of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, which advocates introspection and the expression of emotions through the hands.
More than one hundred students of the Degree in Fashion Design at UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, are exhibiting at the Real Fábrica de Tapices, from Thursday 26 September until Friday 11 October, a total of 19 pieces of textile art developed as part of their training process at the University.
As part of the activities developed by the educational institution during the celebration of Fashion Revolution Week, the annual campaign that brings together the largest global fashion activism movement, and thanks to the transfer by the TENDAM group of more than 100 kilograms of fashion garments in the process of being discarded, the students of the Degree in Fashion Management and Communication at UDIT had the opportunity to manage this waste so that their colleagues from the Degree in Fashion Design could devise, conceptualise and develop the tapestries that can now be seen on display at the Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid.
To manage all this waste and draw their real traceability, the students have also been able to count on the help and method developed by T_Neutral, created with the aim of seeking homogeneous and effective solutions to measure, trace and optimise all textile products, with the intention of accelerating the circular transformation necessary in the textile industry.
The general manager of the RFT, Alejandro Klecker de Elizalde, pointed out that "the exhibition responds to the sustainable and circular economy approach of the Royal Tapestry Factory, which is manifested in compliance with national and international environmental regulations, which include measures such as the recycling of water used in the tapestry washing, dyeing process, which has led to energy savings of 50%".
Along these lines, the director of the Fashion Department at UDIT, Maruca García Paredes, alluded to the University's responsibility in the circular economy and added that "Our responsibility lies in raising awareness in the university community and in training committed professionals and providing them with the tools to enable us to have a better future". He also clarified that this exhibition "is part of the educational project `Sustentare', which was created to allow introspection and the expression of emotions through the hands".
All these projects are worked on with the intention of developing an existential and metaphysical philosophy through space, structures, techniques, matter and light, with the intention of reflecting on what it means to redesign current production systems around a culture of values with their social and ecosystemic implications.
The students who have taken part in the design of the tapestries are Víctor Blanco, Sofía Church, Irene Fuentes, Jorge García, Carmen Gómez, Lua Pulido, Angélica Castillo, Mariam Fernández, Paola Hoyos, Lydia Llano, Paola Minakata, Lucía Negrete, Eva Gascueña, Belén García del Pulgar, Antón Lens, Blanca Meana, Sandra Moya, Natalia Flores, M.
