Industry 5.0: the next step after Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0 marked a turning point in the industrial world. With it came automation, digitalisation and the massive use of technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and Big Data. All with a clear objective: to increase efficiency and reduce costs. However, in this process, human values and sustainability took a back seat.
That is where Industry 5.0 comes in. This new stage does not replace Industry 4.0, but complements it. It puts people at the centre of the digital transformation and is committed to more ethical, collaborative and sustainable technology. In the words of many experts, "Industry 5.0 drives digital transformation from a more human approach, supported by AI and a commitment to the planet".
Far from being just about technical advances, this model promotes an ecosystem where technology does not replace human beings, but works alongside them to solve real problems and build a more balanced future.
Still don't know what Industry 4.0 is?
Before we dive into the new paradigm, it is important to be clear about what Industry 4.0 really means.
This is the fourth industrial revolution, characterised by the incorporation of smart technologies into manufacturing and management processes. Thanks to IoT, artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems and data analytics, companies have been able to optimise their performance, reduce errors and speed up production.
This transformation has been key to improving competitiveness, but it has also generated new challenges: the disconnection between technology and people, the environmental impact or the lack of more inclusive and sustainable models.
