On Sunday 12 February "Mi barrio", a feature film co-directed by Jorge Martínez Vera, a student of the Bachelor's Degree in Video Game Design and Development, which was born from an internship 3 years ago, will premiere in the cinemas of La Gavia shopping centre.
Shortly before the pandemic was declared, Jorge Martínez Vera, a student at the time of the Degree in Video Game Design and Development and with an incipient trajectory as an audiovisual producer endorsed in several editions of Feelmotion, began to work with the Children and Youth Coordinator of Free Time of Vallecas with the aim of recording and editing educational workshops for adolescents and young people living in situations of risk and/or social vulnerability.
With the arrival of the confinement in the middle of the process, the idea arose that the young people themselves would be the ones to make the recordings. During this time, in addition to introducing them to the audiovisual world through workshops, our student Jorge Martínez, the educator and social worker Isabel Iniesta and the Vallecas Coordinator designed the whole process they were going to follow.
They were joined, in turn, by scholarship students from the degrees in Multimedia and Graphic Design, Video Game Design and Development and Animation from ESNE.
Jorge Martínez Vera not only presented his internship work, the documentary about the workshops that were taught, but also, together with Isabel Iniesta and the Coordinator, promoted several successful actions such as analogue photography classes, a collective exhibition, or a photography contest, in which ESNE and its Foundation were very present with the purchase of cameras and the cession of its facilities for the celebration of the awards ceremony.
After the enthusiasm and motivation shown by the scholarship students and the young people of the Coordinadora with these initiatives, Jorge Martínez and Isabel Iniesta decided to go a step further and were encouraged to co-direct "Mi barrio: Vallecas", a film produced by La Coordinadora Infantil y Juvenil de Vallecas, and scripted by our teacher and director of Feelmotion, Raúl San Julián.
A fiction based on the reality of his neighbourhood, Vallecas, which shows the value that associations bring to the population, especially in those places where there is a high concentration of people at risk of vulnerability.
The film narrates the journey of five young people from Vallecas throughout the district, discovering, through interviews and talks, the history, values and identity of Vallecas, as well as the importance of the associative fabric and the non-formal education provided in many of these entities to try to erase socio-economic and cultural barriers.
Congratulations to Jorge Martínez Vera and all the ESNE scholarship students who have collaborated in this project: Inés Oliver, Valle Blanco, Juana Roizman, Hugo Morán, Ignacio Lledias and Sara Zaloña, from the Multimedia and Graphic Design Degree, Carmen Ortega, Maite Rendón and Alejandro Osset, from the Video Game Design and Development Degree, and Maider Briaín, Paula Astorga, Carmen Pelaz and Joan Salvador, from the British Animation Degree for their work of commitment and inclusion and, above all, for embodying those two values that are the cornerstone of ESNE University of Design and Technology: promoting design as a tool for social change and transformation.
