Stop-Motion Workshop: Artisanal Animation in the Age of AI
- Date10 March 2025
- Schedule16:00
Last week, from the 10th to the 14th of March, the Stop-Motion Workshop: Artisanal Animation in the Age of AI, taught by the experienced animator David Castro, took place at the Campus of Design and Creative Industries of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology.
This five-session workshop explored the potential of stop-motion, from experimentation to its application in film, advertising and branded content. The students were able to work, through practical exercises, with techniques such as pixilation, cutout and puppets, thus discovering how handmade animation can provide a distinctive stamp in an increasingly digital world.
David Castro is a director, producer and graduate in pedagogy. Specialising in stop motion animation and media literacy, he has been nominated for the Goya Awards on three occasions. He has competed in festivals such as Sitges, SEMINCI, Aguilar Film Festival, KISFF Kyiv, Encounters Bristol or Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg; and he is currently writing LANA, his first feature film as director and scriptwriter in the 6th edition of the Film Academy Residencies.
