HP Z Captis arrives at UDIT: revolutionary scanner for digitising materials
UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, continues to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into its experimentation and learning spaces. In this line, the university has integrated the new HP Z Captis scanner, one of the most advanced devices in the world for capturing and digitally representing all types of materials.
Developed by HP in collaboration with Adobe, the HP Z Captis was recently recognised with the Best of Innovation award at the CES Innovation Awards 2025, whose jury highlighted the quality of a device designed to capture real-world materials with extreme fidelity, making it possible to generate high-resolution digital textures applicable to all kinds of projects.
Already integrated as part of UDIT's Materioteca, the HP Z Captis scanner can digitise surfaces up to 30 x 30 cm with 108 megapixel image quality, using a polarised photometric capture system that reveals details invisible under conventional lighting.
Equipped with the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier system, the scanner enables real-time image processing, making it an ideal tool for industries such as product design, digital fashion, and Industry 5.0.
In addition, thanks to its modular and portable design, the device can also operate outdoors, extending its possibilities for on-site materials research and all kinds of collaborative projects.
This technology is complemented by Adobe Substance 3D Sampler, a specialised digital materials creation tool that transforms textures captured with the HP Z Captis scanner into 3D materials ready for use in modelling, visualisation and rendering environments.
The incorporation of the new HP scanner will allow students and the academic community of UDIT to have an important ally for the development of new projects.
