Ana Vicens participates as an expert in an article published in the newspaper El Mundo.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the premiere of Cinderella, the newspaper El Mundo takes a look at the main female characters in Disney's animated films. To do so, it had the help of Ana Vicens, PhD in audiovisual communication, researcher at the UDIT Research Group on Design, Visual Culture and Gender (Genius) and expert on the representation of women in Disney films.
The author of the book Heroines or Princesses: The Evolution of Disney Protagonists, she stresses the need for more female creators in order to create real and inspiring female characters. In this line of thought, GENIUS aims to make the figure of women in the area of design and audiovisuals more visible with its latest research project ReDiseña, a repository of women creators.
Negative female archetypes are still common in Disney animated works and other audiovisual productions, hence the importance of analysing these roles and highlighting the work of women creators who add depth to the female characters that educate the youngest children.
