Ecodesign, traceability and consumer: pillars of circular fashion
María Tamames Sobrino, researcher at the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) and head of sustainability at Tendam Sustainability Lab, has contributed as author to the report "Analysis of the circular economy in the fashion sector", published by the Technical Committee CT.36 in the framework of the National Environmental Congress (CONAMA 2024). This document proposes strategic keys to accelerate the transition towards a more competitive, resilient and sustainable textile industry, in line with the new European regulatory framework.
The publication analyses how the textile and footwear industry in Spain can adapt to the new circular economy policies promoted by the European Union. María Tamames contributes to three key chapters of the report. Chapter 4 addresses the growing responsibility of major brands in terms of the transparency of their production processes. Chapter 5 introduces the concept of the Product Digital Passport (PDP), a tool that allows product traceability throughout its life cycle. Finally, Chapter 13 reflects on the role of textiles as a means to enhance and preserve cultural value.
This research offers a clear roadmap for advancing circularity in the textile sector, highlighting good practices and applicable innovations. From the implementation of more efficient recycling systems to the adoption of eco-design strategies and consumer awareness.
The CONAMA 2024 report is presented as an essential reference for those leading change in sustainable fashion. Industry professionals and the general public are invited to consult the full document and explore new ways to contribute to the circular transition.
