The first year students of the Degree in Product Design at UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, have worked on the creation of exclusive packaging for the VIP gifts of the Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid and Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower hotels.

With the aim of promoting talent and applying the students' knowledge in a real project, this participation has been carried out thanks to the collaboration between the University and the company and in which more than 60 students of the aforementioned degree have participated, thus facing a real challenge from the hand of a great recognised name in the hotel industry.

A professional jury made up of leading representatives of the sector

The Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid hotel hosted the presentation of the projects, which were assessed by a professional jury made up of Ignacio Gutiérrez, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid hotel; Jordi Mir, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower hotel; Ángel Holgado, general manager of the Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf & Spa hotel; Javier Carazo, corporate director of resources; and Pedro de Lachiondo, illustrator and architect specialising in graphic arts.

Finally, the student Marta Poy won first prize thanks to the design of her Backlet accessory for mobile devices; Iria Herrero took second place with her sculptural amenity design with incense burner and soap dish; Valeria Trasviña, meanwhile, finished third with her multifunction smart key ring, while the fourth prize went to Javier Vilasevil, with a document box with protective cover for the passport.

To choose the winners, the professional jury assessed aspects such as the originality of the design, the use of recycled or reusable materials, the possibility of the item having a subsequent use and the production cost per unit.
