UDIT, University of Design and Technology, represents the culmination of more than 20 years of ESNE's educational project and will officially start its activity as an independent University in the academic year 2023/2024.

As part of its activity as a University, UDIT has launched its new Research Department, headed by Dr. José Luis Olazagoitia, with the mission of establishing an environment and ecosystem favourable to the research of teachers and researchers at the University, as well as to become a focus of attraction for research talent and achieve excellence in terms of publications, research projects and transfer of results to society in the University's lines of research.

Thanks to the University's Research Department, as part of the University's Research Plan, UDIT held the 1st Research and Innovation Conference with the aim of fostering synergies between the Research Groups that make up the University, as well as facilitating contact and collaboration between the diversity of teachers and researchers that make up the institution. A historic event that brought together a total of 50 lecturers and researchers, demonstrating the institution's strong commitment to research.

During the event, inaugurated by Dr. Juan Cayón, Rector Magnificent of UDIT, the University's Research Groups presented their work and lines of research, thus providing a platform for sharing and disseminating the diverse knowledge of the teaching staff, thus facilitating synergies and meeting points between them.

Different research groups and projects are the protagonists of the UDIT Research Area.

The Principal Investigators (PIs) of UDIT had, for their part, the opportunity to present, on behalf of the researchers within their respective groups, the research areas of the University.

Thus, Dr. Pablo Nogueira highlighted his work in the area of virtualisation of environments, especially in the fields of computing, video games and the metaverse; Dr. María José Pérez-Luque, from the NANDIA Research Lab, presented her main line: "Nature-based Aesthetics Innovation for Design in the Post-Digital Era"; Dr. Carolina García, Mr. Alberto Ramos, Mr. Alberto Ramos and Dr. José Pérez-Luque, from the NANDIA Research Lab, presented their research line: "Nature-based Aesthetics Innovation for Design in the Post-Digital Era". Carolina García, Mr. Alberto Ramos and Ms. María Mamames, explored the confluence between "Fashion, Technology and Sustainability", with a focus on wearables, sustainability and "Fashion and Health"; Dr. Eva Hurtado presented her group "Universes on both sides. Fundamentals and interactions between design, reality and virtual space" and Dr. Montserrat Pichel introduced the DESIRE group "Regenerative Integral Design", aimed at promoting sustainable design and adding value to society through the introduction of biomaterials and infinite cycle materials.

In addition, Dr. Mª del Mar Martínez Oña, Dr. Judith Borras, Dr. Jessica Blanco, Dr. Ana Llorente, Dr. Carmina López, Ms. Ana Pilar Fañanas, Dr. Isabel Iniesta, Dr. Eugenia Muscio, Dr. Chloe Sharpe and Dr. Rafael Timón also presented their lines of research.

The UDIT Research Area is directed by Dr. José Luis Olazagoitia, PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Navarra, who has more than 25 years of experience in companies, research centres and universities, has published more than 40 articles in indexed journals, supervised 3 doctoral theses, as well as 5 more in progress, has experience in the creation of multidisciplinary research teams and management of regional, state and European research projects.
