UDIT opens Threading, an exhibition on ethnographic research in rural Guizhou, China.
The Central de Diseño (Matadero Madrid) is hosting the exhibition Enhebrar, coordinated by Adriana Cagigas, lecturer in the Fashion Department at UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology and co-founder of DEYI; Pauline Ferrières, co-founder of DEYI; Yang Yi, head of the Guizhou craftswomen's community; Gonzalo Álvarez, student of the University's Degree in Fashion Design and Zhang Xing, co-founder of DEYI.
This exhibition brings together the work resulting from the ethnographic research project developed in the rural Chinese area of Guizhou, carried out by a series of students from the degrees in Fashion Design, Fashion Management and Communication, Multimedia and Graphic Design, Product Design, Design and Development of Video Games and Virtual Environments and Animation and the Master's Degree in Product Design at UDIT .
Guizhou, where more than 30 students from the University travelled to, is a region located in the southwest of China, known for its master craftsmanship in the textile field, which, in addition, is anchored to the values of the natural ecosystem.
Through Enhebrar, visitors to the exhibition will be able to walk through the design processes, generating a dialogue between physical and digital realities in the search not only to generate circular design solutions, but also in the need to find new ways of preserving cultural heritage. This preservation is achieved through the digitalisation and recreation of spaces and objects, the interpretation of codes and symbols in decorative and utilitarian elements and the transformation of disused materials or deteriorated garments into new possibilities.
Enhebrar can be visited from 29 April to 4 May, between 16:00 and 21:00 from Tuesday to Friday and from 11:00 to 21:00 on weekends and public holidays, at the Central de Diseño (Matadero Madrid - Paseo de la Chopera, 14).
