More than 32,000 kilometres travelled during the academic year on international trips by students at UDIT, University of Design and Technology. This is the distance covered by more than a hundred students who have had the opportunity to complement their academic training this year on different trips organised by the University to destinations as diverse as New York, Milan, Oporto and London.

Visits to renowned companies, studios and design and technology fairs, where they could learn about the latest trends and developments in the sector have been the activities carried out by the students, who have also had the opportunity to visit historical places to learn first-hand about the influence of culture on design and architecture, thus allowing them to broaden their knowledge and enrich their academic experience.

Design, art and reprography

The students of the Multimedia and Graphic Design Area travelled to London to visit a multitude of events and exhibitions around the London Design Festival. They visited leading companies in the English capital such as the famous independent design studio Pentagram, where they attended a talk with Stuart Gough Associate Partner, as well as the editorial office of MagCulture magazine where they attended a talk by the expert in magazine design, Jeremy Leslie. In addition, during the trip, they were able to visit such outstanding museums as the Design Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum (home of the festival) and even the Tate Modern Gallery.

This area also enjoyed a trip outside Europe, as nine students travelled to New York to collect the renowned Young Ones Awards. A stay that also served the students to get to know renowned studios such as Pentagram or &Walsh and to meet figures such as Pablo Delcan, a Menorcan designer based in New York.

European capitals for Product Design

In the same way, the students of the Degree and Master in Product Design attended the Design Week in Milan, enjoying the most avant-garde exhibitions and attending conferences by design experts such as Alcova, ADI Design Museum, Triennale and the Salone del Mobile. These students also participated in a workshop with the Politecnico di Milano, organised in collaboration between the two universities over several weeks.

The aim of this international workshop was the interaction between the students of both centres in a process of inspiration and design of a proposal focused on the society of the future.

Visits to major fashion leaders

For their part, the students of the Bachelor's Degrees in Fashion Design and Fashion Management and Communication enjoyed a trip to Florence with the intention of immersing themselves in the culture and textiles of the Prato area, thanks to the visit organised to the textile giant Manteco and the firm specialising in finishes for the most important Italian luxury and fashion retail brands, Trafi.

They were also able to immerse themselves in one of the fashion capitals par excellence, Paris. A trip dedicated to exhibitions and museums around great figures of design such as Christian Dior or Yves Saint Laurent.

They were able to discover design in Parisian culture and enjoy routes through fabric and trimmings shops, as well as visiting the legendary Lafayette, La Samaritaine or KITH Store galleries.

Boosting internationality in the Degree in Interior Design

For its part, the Interior Design Department has organised three different trips to Porto, London and Milan, with visits to famous buildings such as the San Sebastian Market (a brutalist building in Porto), renowned studios such as Groupwork, Roger Stirk Harbour + Partners and Zaha Hadid Architects, in London, as well as attending the Salone del Mobile Fair, the Formica Showroom and the Prada Foundation in Milan.

From visiting the most cutting-edge exhibitions to attending lectures by design experts, our students return with a fresh perspective and a wealth of innovative ideas to apply to their own projects.
