UDIT's Degree in Product Design, a leader in international creativity in 2024
In 2024, the Degree in Product Design at UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, has continued to demonstrate that it is a leading degree in creativity, both nationally and internationally.
Proof of this is that a significant number of its students have stood out in prestigious international competitions such as the LIT Lighting Design Awards, the Global FootWear Awards, the Verallia Design Awards or the Crystal Cabin Awards, which have recognised the talent of UDIT Product Design students in areas such as the design of lighting solutions, the development of sustainable footwear or the design of what could be the bathroom of the future in aeroplanes.
In addition, at a national level, UDIT Product Degree students have also given their best in demanding competitions such as the Roca One Day Design Challenge, which challenges contestants to design the best bathroom solution in just one day.
LIT Lighting Design Awards 2024
The LIT Lighting Design Awards recognise the work of lighting designers. They are born out of the conviction that lighting, by combining artistic expression and scientific principles, is an essential component of any design.
In its 2024 edition, three UDIT students have been awarded prizes. Firstly, Miguel Montoya, whose "Nido di Luce" lamp, inspired by the curved shape of eggs and featuring organic lines, won the "Desk Lamps/Floor Lamps" category.
Andrea Torralba received an honourable mention for the project "Ecos", a large-size wall lamp inspired in the concept of shapes that share a connection without physical contact, such as ballet and echo.
In addition, Diego Rodríguez Klecker also received an honourable mention for "Starway to heaven", a modular lamp composed of three customisable pieces that can be stacked, separated or arranged in multiple forms.
Global FootWear Awards 2024
The Global Footwear Awards (GFA) reward the most innovative projects in all footwear divisions, from fashion to sports, and at all stages, from design to the manufacturing process.
In addition, the GFA rewards projects from major brands, independent designers and students. In its fifth edition, UDIT alumni Sofía Martín Franco has been chosen as the winner in the "High Heels" category for her project TireNova.
Sofía defines TireNova as a fusion between innovation and sustainability, presenting platform shoes with 3D printed soles, made from recycled material from tyres. The uppers are designed from bio-based PLA, a polymer derived from renewable resources such as corn, sugar cane and beets, and combine fluid curves with structural integrity.
Crystal Cabin Awards 2025
The Crystal Cabin Awards are the most prestigious awards in the field of aircraft cabin innovation. Since 2007, they recognise developments that transform the passenger experience and aviation technology and are a benchmark for the entire industry.
This year more than 50 entries are competing in seven different categories, ranging from the development of sustainable solutions to innovations to improve passenger comfort during flight.
In the "University" category, a team of five UDIT students(Jaime Campos, Mateo Magaz, Guillermo Fernández Arias, Pablo Gil García de Viedma and Antonio Alejandro González) have qualified for the final with the project R.A.I.S.S (Restroom Autonomous In-flight Sanitising System), an innovative solution that improves the hygiene of aeroplane toilets, using an autonomous robot that cleans the floor after each one.
In addition, the new bathroom designed by UDIT students also incorporates interactive screens, an island sink design that makes better use of space and an innovative self-cleaning toilet system.
The winners of the competition will be announced on 8 April in Hamburg to coincide with the Aircraft Interiors Expo.
Verallia Design Awards
Verallia is one of the three leading manufacturers of glass packaging for food and beverages in the world and offers innovative, customised and environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
The 2024 edition of the Verallia Design Awards, "Your talent through glass", sought to recognise product personalisation as an enabler of consumer engagement , highlighting concepts such as sustainability, convenience and experience. On this occasion, the Noa Project, designed by Jaime Campuzano, won the Social Networks Award.
Roca One Day Design Challenge
On a national level, UDIT students have shone with their own light in theRoca One Day Design Challenge, a competition that encourages students to create innovative bathroom solutions in just one day, at the company's headquarters in Madrid and Barcelona.
In the edition held in Madrid, Miguel González Ugarte and Beatriz Panduro won second place in the competition with their eCompetition project, a bathroom cabinet with integrated washbasin that emphasises making children aware of how important it is to save water.
To this end, the cabinet incorporates a screen that gamifies the experience of using the sink, showing a classification that varies according to the water consumption of each member of the family throughout each week.
Internal competitions
Finally, students from UDIT's Degree in Product Design stood out in challenges set by Sulion and the University of Mondragón. In the Sulion competition, Andrea Torralba won with ECOS, an innovative ceiling fan with a single blade inspired by echo and ballet, while Teresa González de Miguel and Antonio Alejandro González received honourable mentions for their designs Moon and Zenith, which fuse aesthetics, functionality and sensory experiences.
Sofía Ruiz Brenlla stood out in the Mondragón University challenge with UOVO, a stool with a minimalist design and curved lines, created without screws and with a focus on sustainability and functionality.
