  • Aena and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza finalise a collaboration framework to carry out joint activities at AS Madrid-Barajas Airport

Aena and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza have developed an agreement to carry out activities to promote culture at the airport over the next four years.

The aim of both entities is to plan and carry out joint projects and activities on a regular basis at the Airport, in order to promote Madrid and its cultural offer as a tourist destination. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport will benefit from the possibility of exhibiting replicas of works of art in its facilities that provide a 'Sense of Place', decorate and embellish the passenger transit areas, making their journey an unforgettable cultural experience.

The collaboration between Aena and the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza will take the form of making spaces available at the airport (physical spaces, supports, screens, etc.) for the dissemination and holding of cultural or artistic activities of the Museum, as well as collaboration in acts and events promoting the image of the city of Madrid, the Museum and the Airport itself.

Mannequins in the VIP lounges

The Aena VIP lounges at the Airport will have mannequins seated as passengers, with designs inspired by the works of the Permanent Collection of Renaissance and Impressionism housed in the museum, created by students of the latest Degree in Fashion Design at UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology.

In addition, the digital screens in the boarding lounges will show promotional videos of the current or planned temporary exhibitions at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.

With this project, Aena is once again committed to fostering and promoting art in its facilities in collaboration with one of the most prestigious international institutions, as part of its commitment to bringing culture to airports. The main objective of these actions is to improve the experience of passengers in their transit through the airport facilities, offering them a unique experience, bringing them closer to culture and the city of Madrid.

Windows 'dressed' in art

Among the promotional activities to be carried out at the airport is the decoration of the upper windows of T4 with vinyls reproducing works from the Thyssen Museum's Permanent Collection. In addition, on the windows of the T4S disembarkation area, the vinyls will contain images of some of the characters from the works in the aforementioned collection, with the slogan Hola Thyssen.
