Madrid, 13 September 2023. The students of the Official University Degree in Fashion Design at UDIT, University of Design and Technology, presented, as part of the 78th edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, the Lo Fugaz collection for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2024 season.

Thanks to the unique collaboration developed between the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and UDIT, University of Design and Technology, which aims to support the talent of young designers by turning their work into a showcase for the image of the city of Madrid, the students of the last year of the Degree in Fashion Design have reinterpreted different impressionist works from the museum's permanent collection.

Lo Fugaz speaks of evanescent memory, the use of pure colour or rhythm through light and brushstrokes or the fleetingness of the moment and, thanks to this work, the students have explored their creative identity through different pictorial works, transferring their essence to the pieces they have created and which form part of the collection.

The voluble forms of leaves in the wind, water and clouds are the main triggers for the visual development of the projects, materialising in vaporous fabrics, knitted textures, organic prints or natural dyes; for their part, blue, brown, green, pink and beige tones filter into the collections as if coming from the painter's palette when executing a painting in the open air, playing with the interaction of tones to achieve an interesting aesthetic result.

In addition, the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía participated in the fashion show with a string quartet that enlivened the proposals presented by the young fashion designers of UDIT.

The 31 designers of the collection "Lo Fugaz" are Anna Martínez, Noemí Escudero, María Alonso, Lucía Borrego, Ainhoa Cadarso, Natalia de Francisco, Isabel González, Federica Nasra, Paula Merino, Mariana Bermúdez, Judit Grau, Pilar Torija, Nahiane Telletxea, Carla Martín, Javier Polo, Celia Canellada, Hugo Pena, Isabel Herrero, Mireia Planas, Darío Molina, María Ascaso, Mercedes Nieto, Elena Cosío, Gema Ruiz, Julieta Portada, Marina San Emeterio, Ana María Sánchez, Natalia Sanz, Isabella Ranger, Alejandro Rodríguez and Salvador Ros.

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and UDIT bring together great works of painting and training in fashion design

The academic collaboration between UDIT and the Thyssen Museum began in February of this year, when the students of the Degree in Fashion Design had the opportunity to enjoy several private visits in which the artistic currents of the Renaissance and Impressionism were explained to them, showing them the most representative works of each of them. From that moment on, the process of documentation, research and work on the different collections began, accompanied by professors and professionals from the university and the museum.

The collaboration agreement also includes the publication of a book edited by the university and the museum, the organisation of a photo session at the museum with the pieces designed by the students and the exhibition of some of these garments in the Thyssen shop.

The main objective of this collaboration is to support the talent of young designers by turning their work into a showcase for the image of the city of Madrid, as well as to bring art closer to the new generations through this initiative.
