On Wednesday 2 October, the Auditorium of the Design and Creative Industries Campus of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology was visited by the researcher and engineer in emerging technologies Fabien Girardin, who gave the masterclass "How I learned to think about the future", a session that inaugurated the ninth edition of the Master in User Experience for the Design of Digital Products and Services.

In this session, Fabien Girardin shared his experience on how designers and technologists can develop the ability to "anticipate what's ahead". Drawing on more than 20 years of professional and research career, he reflected on the key moments that led him to become a pioneer of Design Fiction, a practice that combines local observations, global trends and creative prototypes to make organisations think.

A multidisciplinary approach that blends creativity and imagination with logic and structure.

A researcher and engineer in emerging technologies with a PhD in Computer Science and Digital Communication, Fabien Girardin is a co-founding partner of the Near Future Laboratory, an organisation recognised for pioneering Design Fiction. Honed over the last 20 years, his approach is multidisciplinary, blending creativity and imagination with logic, structure and engineering expertise. His research has been cited in over 2000 academic publications and his creative work has been exhibited at the Dubai Museum of the Future and the Barcelona Design Museum, among other international cultural institutions.
