Masterclass by Lucía Lucas: Digital Fabrication for the Circular Economy: Reflections from Design

On Thursday 7 March at 17:00, the Multipurpose Space (building located on Calle Colombia) of the Design and Creative Industries Campus of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, was visited by Lucía Lucas, Manager of the FabLab of CIEC (Centre for Innovation in Circular Economy).
In this session, Lucas addressed how digital manufacturing technology can contribute to the principles of the circular economy, while exploring various perspectives from design to understand how digital manufacturing can promote waste reduction, reuse of materials and optimisation of resources in production processes. Furthermore, case studies, trends and strategies to effectively integrate digital manufacturing into a circular economy approach were also discussed and the crucial role of design in this context was highlighted, identifying opportunities and challenges to drive sustainability in the value chain.
Entrepreneur specialising in Digital Manufacturing
An architect by profession, Lucía Lucas is currently developing her PhD thesis focused on innovation strategies for the circular economy through digital manufacturing. She runs the digital architecture and manufacturing consultancy LAB-LOB and is manager of Fab Lab CIEC - Centre for Innovation in Circular Economy of the Madrid City Council.
