UDIT Style

Study the master's degree in lighting design at UDIT

In MASTERLUZ you will be trained as a designer from day one, with real challenges, first class mentors and a community that connects you directly with the industry.

A unique, 100% professionalising and connected master's degree that transforms your profile into that of a professional ready to join any lighting studio. You will design, debate, present, network and build your portfolio while acquiring solid, practical and 100% applicable skills .

Do you want to be a lighting designer?

MASTERLUZ is not just another academic degree. It's the only 100% professional master's degree in lighting design, created to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Here you don't "study lighting" or "do an internship". This approach is obsolete and does not serve to create professionals. In MASTERLUZ you will act as a Lighting Designer from day one:

Professional portfolio from day one: you will solve weekly challenges formulated by working designers, with practical deliverables that will naturally create a unique portfolio, with highly relevant cases and skills for future employers.

Real-world internships during the programme: you will face real assignments written by national and international studio leaders, be mentored by practicing designers and have direct contact with future employers.

Innovative learning methodologies: no "Powerpoints" or "note-taking". Each week you will receive training pills designed by experts and discuss them in class. This resource will continue to be available and updated after the Master to accompany you in your professional development.

Exclusive professional community: weekly lectures, international lecture series open to the public, APDI membership from the start, active professors, internships tutored by national and international studios... After graduation, you will be part of an active and unique alumni network.

Syllabus

The Syllabus of MASTERLUZ, a Master in Lighting Design for Architecture comprises 60 ECTS and is divided into two modules: technical profile and creative profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • University degrees may only be awarded by universities or centres affiliated to them. Non-university degrees will not have the same recognition as those awarded by official universities, such as validity in competitive examinations in the "other merits" section or recognition by other educational institutions.

  • No, it is not official. The Diplomas of our own Master belong to the category of own degrees, are endorsed by the University and have a vocation of professional specialisation. If you wish to study an official Master's Degree, you can consult our offer in this link.

  • The qualification is called the Master's Degree in Lifelong Learning. It has a course load of 60 ECTS and is issued by our University.

  • The knowledge acquired in the Master's Degree in Lighting for Architecture will help students to have a broader vision of the needs of a project so that they can evolve to profiles related to the management of projects, teams and complex and larger projects.

This means that the professional opportunities are all those that require professionals who are experts in conceptualising and technically developing the effects of light in architecture and interior design. The most immediate professional outlets are the positions of lighting designers, which are offered by all the agents involved in the project: specialised technical consultancies, engineering firms, and interior design, architecture or landscaping studios, among others. But these professionals are also in great demand from the luminaire and lighting equipment manufacturing industry, to form part of their project teams and technical teams. Finally, there is a growing demand for lighting specialists from agents linked to property ownership, in specialised sectors such as the hotel and restaurant industry, or the shopping centre industry, among others.

  • The entry requirement for this degree is to be in possession of an official Bachelor's Degree / Bachelor's Degree / Engineering / Diploma / Higher Degree in Design or similar. You can also reserve your place if you are in the final year of your degree and can finish it before starting the Master's with us.

  • Because it is the only executive programme at master's level, which guarantees the acquisition of the skills demanded by the industry for this specialised design professional profile. Because it combines excellence in technical and creative training. Because it forms leadership profiles in this field.

  • To generate the most visual documentation of the projects, we work with the most standard programmes for generating and processing images, including Photoshop at a basic level. For the project development documentation, the industry standard is AutoCAD, also at a basic level, as we work with lighting on projects already developed in CAD. As for specific software, Masterluz works with DIALUX. It is a specific lighting engineering software that is presented and learnt in the master's degree itself. The master's degree ensures the acquisition of advanced skills in this specific programme, which will be validated by an official certification from the software publisher.

  • The programme is open to various access profiles, as it includes both technical and creative or design content. Therefore, natural access can be considered from any previous design degree (especially, but not only, interior and product design), architecture, or engineering (especially, but not only, industrial engineering and similar degrees). However, more singular access itineraries are also possible, for example from fine arts degrees or other higher degrees in the humanities, as long as the applicant has the necessary interest and vocation, and ensures basic skills in the use of the software described above.

  • To start the admission process you must complete the information request form. From there, we will call you to resolve your initial doubts and schedule a personal interview with the master's team, in which we will review together your background, your goals and assess whether there is a fit with the programme. If there is a match, you will receive the admission form to formally apply for your place. Once you have been admitted, you will be able to pay the reservation fee to guarantee your place and, subsequently, self-enrol and upload the required documentation through the virtual campus.
