OPPO rewards young design talent
Smart device brand OPPO has announced the winners of the OPPO Find N2 Flip Cover Screen Design Awards, celebrating innovation and creativity, at an event hosted at UDIT, University of Design and Technology.
More than 300 creative projects from a total of 10 countries competed for the awards, including submissions of static and dynamic wallpapers as well as design concepts for the outer screen of the OPPO Find N2 Flip device.
The winners each received a cash prize of up to €7,500 and an OPPO Find N2 Flip mobile phone.
Thomas Chamberlain-Keen, a concept artist and illustrator in the gaming industry, was the Grand Prize winner and said that "it seems like science fiction to see the first technology demonstrations of foldable screens turned into products on the market, and that idea sums up why design is so important".
Company/University Collaboration
For the OPPO Find N2 Flip Cover Screen Design celebration, the company has collaborated with two prestigious academic institutions, UDIT, University of Design and Technology, and NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Art to reach out to emerging talents, as universities are home to young international communities and are global centres of culture.
The awards ceremony took place at the UDIT University Campus in an event hosted by the designer and architect Tomás Alía.
David Pérez Medina, professor and director of UDIT's master's degree in Graphic Design, formed part of the jury of experts that selected the winners. "It has been a real honour to participate as a juror in this OPPO competition," said David. "I am delighted that young talent is being rewarded on a European level. My sincere thanks to OPPO for showing so much sensitivity and generosity towards the younger generation".
In addition to connecting with young designers, OPPO strives to remain relevant to its users and encourages an open dialogue. Therefore, the winner of a special award, the Community Favourite Award, was decided via the Instagram account @oppo.europe, allowing all users to vote for their favourite design.
