Which baccalaureate do you need to study Animation?

If you want to start training in Animation, we tell you what baccalaureate you need to have studied to be able to access the Official Degree in Animation and what it consists of.

Is it necessary to have previous specific training?

No, if you want to study the Bachelor's Degree in Animation you can do so without having studied a specific baccalaureate, you must meet the entry requirements set out in art.3 of Royal Decree 412/2014, nor have prior knowledge about aspects such as motion capture, cut-out, concept art, VFX... All our Bachelor's Degrees start from scratch, so it is not necessary to take a specific type of bachelor's degree that trains you in these areas.

Although it is true that, due to the type of degree, it is recommended to take a bachelor's degree in arts, you don't have to worry about your previous training to make the most of our degrees.

What will you learn in the Bachelor's Degree in Animation?

UDIT's Bachelor's Degree in Animation is an official 4-year degree, in which you will receive comprehensive training in 2D and 3D Animation, cut-out, motion capture, concept art and production, post-production and VFX.

During the first year, you will acquire a mastery of the basic techniques of technical and artistic drawing. Throughout the course, you will begin to animate in two dimensions, in the classical way. You will acquire a broad training in art, acting and scriptwriting.

During the second year, you will deepen your knowledge of the concepts and techniques initiated in the previous year, and you will also begin to work on 3D animation, as well as photography and lighting.

In the third year, you will expand your knowledge of 3D animation, adding special effects. You will also work on audio, as well as cinematographic direction and editing, key elements to be able to develop advanced projects.

The last course will be the final step for your insertion in the labour market, where in addition to developing complete projects you will learn about music composition, current legislation or art direction.

This degree is for you if you are a passionate person who wants to conceive, design and create animation content for films, video games, series, advertising, etc.

What will you be able to do?

You will be able to work in positions present in each of the three stages of a project: pre-production, production and post-production.

In pre-production you will be able to work as: 2D-3D character designer, art and photography designer, storybordist, concept art, layout designer, rig-setup, among others.

In production you will be able to work in areas and positions such as: 2D-3D animator, cut-out animator, stop-motion animator, production manager, 2D-3D background designer, Ink&Paint colour direction, among others.

In post-production you will be able to work in positions such as: special effects, editing and compositing, editing and dubbing, particle animator, lighting and rendering, project management, among others.

Degree in Animation at UDIT

In fact, thedirector ofthe Bachelor's Degree in Animation, Manuel Sirgo, is a member of the Film Academy and founder of the production company 12 Pingüinos S.L., through which he has won many film awards. Two Goya Awards stand out, in 2002 he received the Goya for Best Animated Short Film for "Pollo" and in 2019 for the animated short film "Cazatalentos".

Our classrooms have trained personalities such as Raúl García, animator at Warner Bros in projects such as "Phineas and Ferb, Candance against the universe" or Diego Porral, animation supervisor for a Netflix project and whose work "A day in the park" was nominated in 2018 for best animated short film, among others.

At the University of Design, Innovation and Technology you can live unique experiences by participating in fairs, events and festivals such as Animac, Animaweek, International Animation Film Festival and get in touch with professionals and companies in the industry through masterclasses, workshops or workshops such as the Spanish Stop-Motion seminar given by Sam Ortí or the exhibition of To Egypt with Disney, curated by María Luz Mangado, PhD in Egyptology and PhD in Near East.
