Saber Crear is the proposal of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology for its participation in Fiesta Design, the new initiative of Madrid Design Festival that invites the public to immerse themselves in the experience of design in a closer way.
Developed by Interior Design Degree students Elena Fernández and Mirian Palacios, founders of the Senda Interiorismo studio and with the collaboration of students and former students, this project aims to give life to an experiential space that seeks to become a meeting point for reflection, dissemination and dialogue with the public.
It is a Zen garden or "Karensaui", that is, a dry garden of Japanese origin that aims to connect with inner serenity and reduce stress through the beauty and elegance of its own design. For its development, sand and stone (represented with two FINSA cementitious finishes) have become the main elements with which students and alumni have worked in a space that rises around a bonsai tree that symbolises wisdom and the contemplation of progress.
The garden also houses creations by students and graduates of the Degree in Product Design, such as the ceramic piece "Trateggio" by Sofía Martín, the biodegradable lamp "Ma-ka" by Elsa Gil and the Rubra Table by Livia de Prado, Natasha Paris and Paula Varela.
The space also features four works by graphic designers Marina Pérez, Sara Muñoz, Alba Castro and Irene Marcos that have recently been recognised at the UNESCO Design The Future 2023 awards.
