Presentation
Graduate in Interior Design from ETSAM (School of Architecture of Madrid).
Since 2010, Álvaro Valdecantos has been working independently while also collaborating on team projects with other designers.
In 2012, together with Irene Bas, he founded the experimental collective Lightmade, dedicated to exploring the intersection of various disciplines—lighting, photography, and interior design—seeking the connections between them.
In 2013, also alongside Irene Bas, as well as Alberto Barberá and Paolo Portaluri, he co-founded the lighting collective Lupercales, with the mission of raising awareness about the use of lighting in urban spaces and heritage architecture, with an educational and social focus.
As an interior designer, he has experience in a wide range of project types, including luxury hotels, restaurants, residential spaces, and offices. He is skilled in project development and management, as well as in site supervision for high-quality design projects.
As a photographer, he specializes in architectural and lighting photography. To this end, he has undertaken highly technical training in new technologies within the field, emphasizing the technical aspects of light and its relationship with photography.
Since 2013, he has been teaching photography and lighting design workshops at the School of Interior Design at ETSAM (School of Architecture of Madrid), IED Barcelona, and ARTIDI.
He is currently a senior lecturer in Ergonomics at IED Barcelona, where he researches the relationship between the body and learning, training in various somatic and stress-reduction techniques that he actively applies in his classes.
In 2024, he launched his learning platform The Seed on Instagram, along with a podcast of the same name on Spotify and YouTube, focused on education and learning.
