UDIT, the leading University for studying Fashion Design
The origin of the official university degree in Fashion Design in Spain is directly related to UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology.
This institution, which represents the culmination of more than 20 years of the educational project of the prestigious ESNE School of Design, was the first to incorporate a regulated and official degree in this field of design in 2009.
Since then, hundreds of professionals have been trained in Fashion Design in what is currently, by number of students, the largest University, both public and private, in fashion training in Spain.
But... What aspects make UDIT the best University in Spain to study Fashion Design?
Active methodology with a focus on practice and the professional reality of the designer.
The learning by doing methodology is the backbone around which the entire Study Plan of the Degree in Fashion Design at UDIT is structured. An action-oriented training and professional practice, which responds to a comprehensive didactic approach.
Thus, students must develop different projects, some of them with leading firms, with the aim of parading on the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid catwalk, through which they can put into practice everything they have learned throughout their years of training at the University.
Finally, as a Final Degree Project, students must design and make their own collection, the perfect cherry on top of a portfolio on which they begin to work from the first year.
Academic ecosystem connected to business reality
85% of UDIT teachers combine teaching with their professional activity in the design sector. Thus, not only do they offer a complete, quality and specialised education, but also one that is totally coherent and up-to-date with the context and needs of the fashion industry at a national and international level.
Likewise, as part of the Syllabus, countless master classes and workshops are organised throughout the year, given by professionals from the sector. Without going any further, during the current academic year, professionals from companies such as Silbón, Pedro del Hierro, Castañer, The Extreme Collection, The Nude Project, Kaótiko or Encinar Brand, among many others, have visited the University.
In addition to learning from them, these masterclassesare a unique opportunity to connect and start building your own network of contacts. In fact, large companies in the sector bring talent to UDIT and there is constant contact with the Human Resources departments to update content according to their needs.
State-of-the-art facilities, latest technology, professional tools
The students of the Degree in Fashion Design develop their training at the International Campus of Design and Creative Industries of UDIT, where they can enjoy more than 13,000m2 of cutting-edge facilities that incorporate the latest technology, highlighting the dressmaking and pattern-making workshop, with the best sewing machines and industrial overlockers, or the textile experimentation laboratories, where students create their own fabrics and make magnificent dyeing.
In this way, students have the opportunity to learn how to handle the Japanese textile technology Shima Seiki, fashion and trend software such as Clo3D or SEDDI and professional equipment used in today's job market.
Professional fashion show at the Fashion Week MBFW Madrid
UDIT is the only University that parades in the official calendar of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the most important catwalk at national level. Each edition, the fourth year students of the Degree in Fashion Design present their proposals, the result of more than a year of work and a reflection of the years of specialised training received.
Each of these proposals is conceived, conceptualised, designed and made by the students individually, always with the mentoring, monitoring and support of the University's teaching staff. A challenge and an experience that not only immerses them fully in the fashion industry, but also represents an unforgettable milestone in their professional careers.
Many more competitions
The educational quality and innovative character of UDIT has been rewarded with different awards throughout its history. From the National Innovation and Design Award, granted by the Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation, to the Education and Training Award at the Madrid Open Cities Awards, both in recognition of excellence and commitment to talent and innovation.
Precisely as a reflection of the latter, the University offers its students numerous opportunities to participate in various competitions. In the case of the Degree in Fashion Design, students have seen their projects awarded in competitions such as BIAAF, the Museo del Traje's Emerging Design Month, the Greenwalk Awards or the Manteco Awards, platforms that not only highlight the talent, effort and execution of the students, but also add extra visibility to their work and a boost to their professional career.
International projection and agreements around the world
Another differential aspect of UDIT is its international character, present in the daily life of the University. Without going any further, there are many international students who choose this institution to study or to live an Erasmus experience. This fosters the creation of a diverse ecosystem in which different visions of design are shared and, of course, cultural and social aspects that enrich the experience of all members of the university community.
In addition, UDIT students have the opportunity to study at the best universities in the world, where they are immersed in different methodologies and visions of design and industry, while developing numerous projects with their counterparts in other countries. Our students have been able to spend four semesters in places such as New York, Milan, Paris, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Germany, China, Mexico and Turkey. Likewise, students can carry out professional internships in companies in other countries, such as Adidas or Puma, a transforming experience facilitated by the institution thanks to the agreements signed and the existing connections with leading companies in the industry.
On the other hand, the University's teaching team organises trips, experiences and international projects with the aim of complementing the training received during the years of education at the institution. A close example of this is the ethnographic trip to China made last year by some thirty UDIT students.
More than a career, a vital experience
In short, studying Fashion Design at UDIT is much more than just theoretical and technical training. The University gives life to the vocation of each of its students, promoting their talent and guiding them, so that they can find their style and language through all kinds of enriching experiences.
From the day-to-day in the classroom, under the guidance of a first-class teaching team, active in the industry, to collaborations and projects with renowned companies, the possibility of professional internships in leading companies within the industry, participation in exhibitions and fashion shows or international trips. Each and every one of the students' experiences, from their first day at the University, builds their identity and shapes a promising professional career that begins at UDIT.
