A look at how Disney's leading ladies have changed
In a century of history, the evolution of the female characters represented in the Disney universe has been minimal. Despite the fact that the protagonists of the films have been changing and adapting to today's society, the gender biases and roles that associate women with submission, kindness or sacrifice in pursuit of men or the family continue to be perpetuated. And these behaviours then permeate into childhood. Chema García Langa talked about all this with Ana Vicens Poveda, lecturer at the University of Design and Technology (UDIT) and author of the book Heroines or princesses: the evolution of Disney's leading ladies (Unir Editorial).
