Syllabus

The Master's Degree in Illustration is divided into 60 ECTS credits and lasts one year.

Come and visit us

Arrange a visit to our Madrid campus from Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 18.00 hours, sign up for the Open Days we hold on Saturdays or the online information sessions.

Take the entrance exam

To assess your academic skills and make sure you are up to the challenge, you will take a placement test.

Formalise your registration

Once you have taken the test and have been informed of your admission to UDIT, you must book your enrolment to guarantee your place for the next course. Places are allocated in strict order of booking.

  • Now is the time to do it. Private companies and public organisations are increasingly making use of the visual strategies that illustration provides to present their proposals and create links with their different audiences. UDIT is a benchmark centre for design and technology in Madrid. In addition, this university is a pioneer in the launch of new official degrees, such as the degree in Audiovisual Design and Illustration.

  • The master's degree is recommended for creative graduates with a graphic or project-based component and different training (from general design degrees to degrees in Product Design, Fashion, Interior Design, Animation, Video Games, Digital Art, Interactive Products, Architecture, Fine Arts or Information Sciences in the fields of Audiovisual Communication or Advertising).

    It is also aimed at graduates trained in professions other than creative professions who work in creative environments and want a full and versatile training rather than one focused solely on learning professional technical tools.

    Finally, if you do not yet have a university degree, you can consider enrolling in the Bachelor's Degree in Audiovisual Design and Illustration, which will provide you with a solid academic and practical foundation in the field of design and illustration, preparing you for the Master's Degree.

  • The Master's Degree in Illustration at UDIT lasts one academic year. From October to July, 60 ECTS. During your training you will participate in the following:

    • Theoretical and practical classes: participate in a combination of theoretical and practical classes, workshops and projects.
    • Final project: work on a final illustration project that allows you to apply everything you have learnt and demonstrate your creative and technical skills.
    • Complete preparation: this intensive approach ensures that at the end of the master's degree, you are fully prepared to face the challenges of the professional world.
  • Enlightenment is a rising value. Companies need professionals capable of formulating a new inventory and rethinking products, services and experiences through design.

    The world of illustration has multiple applications ranging from the product to the narrative, through visual and audiovisual communication, occupying all the spaces that surround us, from the written press to digital advertising.

    But not only that, studios, publishers and art spaces seek to incorporate this profile and collaborate with illustrators who know how to synthesise and translate their ideas into visual language.

  • Graduates of UDIT's Master's degree in Illustration have access to a wide variety of job opportunities:

    • Editorial illustrator: work creating illustrations for books, magazines and digital publications.
    • Advertising illustrator: designs attractive and effective images for advertising and marketing campaigns.
    • Character designer: collaborates in the creation of characters for video games, animations and films.
    • Scientific illustrator: produces accurate and detailed illustrations for scientific and educational publications.
    • Freelance: offers illustration services to a variety of clients and projects, enjoying the freedom and diversity that freelance work offers.
  • If you do not have the necessary prior knowledge for the development of the Master's Degree in Illustration, you must take one of the following training complements of 4 ECTS each.

    1. Audiovisual applications - 4 ECTS

    You will learn and apply the functionalities of the audiovisual programmes After Effects and Adobe Premiere, focusing on the sound and movements of animated characters .

    2. Graphic applications - 4 ECTS

    You will learn and apply the functionalities of vector design with Adobe Illustrator, image retouching and transformation with Adobe Photoshop and traditional graphic applications.

    3. Analogue applications - 4 ECTS

    You will learn the theories of visual perception and image compression and apply the skills of traditional analogue creation, as well as advanced analogue drawing (dry technique).

    After assessing the candidate, the director of the Master's programme will recommend the need to take these complementary courses.

  • Yes, this Master can be subsidised by FUNDAE. Check with our admissions department for all the details. FUNDAE is a public company that manages the funds destined to the training programmed by the companies that will be able to make effective by means of bonuses in their contributions to the Social Security. They favour the access, by means of subsidies, to free and quality training for all workers.


  • Adobe programmes are installed on the computers set up for this purpose in the classrooms. From the 2025-26 academic year, all UDIT students will have an Adobe Creative Cloud licence that can be used on any device, inside or outside the University.
