Diego Rodríguez Klecker, student of the Degree in Product Design, creates the trophies for the "Madrid, Capital of Ibero-America Awards".
The design of the "El Puente"trophy , conceived and manufactured by Diego Rodríguez Klecker, student of the Degree in Product Design at UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, has become the official symbol of the Madrid, Iberoamerican Capital Awards, held last October at Casa América and organised by the Madrid City Council and the Business Council Alliance for Iberoamerica (CEAPI). Madrid, Capital of Ibero-America Awards, held on 21 October at the Casa de América and organised by the Madrid City Council and the Business Council Alliance for Ibero-America (CEAPI).
The work visually represents the bond that connects Spain and Latin America across the Atlantic. The trophy is made up of two bodies that converge in the centre (one engraved with text and the other with the map of Ibero-America), symbolising the two shores of the ocean. Its travertine marble base supports a gilded brass body that enhances the craftsmanship, elegance and symbolic meaning of this unique piece.
Inspired by the myth of Atlas, Rodriguez Klecker introduces a conceptual wink in this trophy: when the piece is inverted, the figure of the titan can be seen holding the base with his arms, a metaphor for the effort and strength that keep the two continents together.
During the ceremony, presided over by Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida and CEAPI President Núria Vilanova, outstanding figures were recognised for their contribution to Ibero-American ties: Luis Amodio, President of OHLA (Business Award); Juan Antonio Pérez Simón, art collector (Cultural Award); and Paula Quinteros, CEO of The Objective (Communication Award).
The event culminated with a posthumous tribute to Mario Vargas Llosa, as a tribute to his literary career and his close ties with Madrid, the city where he lived and where he developed a large part of his work.
The Madrid, Capital of Ibero-America Awards were created with the aim of making Madrid the European epicentre of dialogue, culture and collaboration between the countries of Ibero-America.
