Two students create a fan out of orange peel
Camen Carranza and Javier Villasevil are two young students on the Degree in Product Design at the University of Design, Innovation and Technology who presented a fan made from orange peel at the10th Disoñamos Designers' Meeting in Palma del Río. To obtain this "leather-like" material, they remove all the moisture from the orange peel and turn it into powder, according to Carmen, which they mix with a series of natural elements to create a biodegradable material "a kind of paste that is spread out and left to dry", explains Javier. These sheets are worked with a laser cutter to give them the shape they want. They have made fans that have even been presented in New York with the sour oranges of cities such as Seville. The project is still in its early stages, although they believe it has a lot of potential.
