Innovation in the Textile Industry: Shima Seiki
The textile industry is undergoing a radical transformation in recent decades, largely driven by technological innovation. New materials, disruptive designs or innovative manufacturing and production techniques are changing the traditional approach to fashion.
One of the most prominent examples of the increasing use of technology in clothing design and manufacturing is Shima Seiki. At UDIT, we have this technology, do you know what it is and what it can do? Find out!
Cutting-edge technology in fashion
Shima Seiki is a Japanese company that has integrated technology into manufacturing and production processes, developing computerised knitting machines that have redefined the way we create and consume knitwear.
One of the most outstanding contributions is its ability to produce seamless garments. In traditional manufacturing, garments are cut and sewn from individual pieces of fabric, a process that generates material waste. However, Shima Seiki constructs garments layer by layer and seamlessly, thus reducing waste and making production more sustainable.
Efficiency is another key advantage. These machines are capable of producing fabrics at an astonishing speed, allowing them to respond quickly to market demands. As well as reducing operating costs. It also allows a high degree of customisation, allowing designers to explore a world of creative possibilities.
Most striking, however, is its ability to create three-dimensional fabrics. While conventional machines produce flat fabrics, Shima Seiki's machines allow the creation of textured and embossed fabrics. This not only means expanding design possibilities, but also adds a tactile element to garments, providing new sensory experiences for consumers.
Like this, we can find others that exemplify how innovation in the textile industry enables the convergence of fashion and technology , benefiting manufacturers and above all the consumer experience.
UDIT: state-of-the-art equipment
At UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, Fashion Design students will have access to the technological and professional equipment used in large companies, including the Shima Seiki. In the project workshop they will learn how to use this technology to carry out all their ideas. Do you want to integrate technology into your designs? Here you can make it happen.
