Space exploration takes centre stage in Science Week at UDIT's Technology, Innovation and Applied Sciences Campus
From 11 to 14 November, the Campus of Technology, Innovation and Applied Sciences of UDIT will join the events celebrating Science and Innovation Week 2025 of the Community of Madrid, with a programme that combines creativity, technology and research.
On Monday 11th, the Hackathon 404will begin , an activity that proposes to design an error page in an unusual context: a mission to Mars that suffers an unexpected technical failure. Participants will have to imagine and develop the interface that "Major Tom" would see in his attempt to land on the red planet, in an experience that will extend throughout the week in different classrooms.
On Tuesday 12, from 10:00 to 12:00, the round table "Technology in space"will take place , moderated byRafael Conde Melguizo, researcher and professor at UDIT . Participants will include Dorealda Dalipaj, lecturer at degrees in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence andFull-Stack Development; Javier Pascual, lecturer atDegree in Design and Development of Video Games and Virtual Environments and founder of Singular Things; as well as representatives of the Business Incubation Centres (BIC) of the European Space Agency (ESA). Together they will address the challenges and opportunities posed by technological innovation applied to space exploration, as well as the future prospects of the sector beyond Earth.
This will be followed from 12:30 to 14:30 by the participatory debate "NASA STS-119: Should we launch?", a simulation inspired by the real-life dilemma NASA faced in 2009 before the launch of the shuttle Discovery. Attendees will put themselves in the shoes of engineers and mission managers to decide whether the flight should take place, facing the eternal tension between safety and scientific progress.
The programme will culminate on Friday 14 with a second session of the Hackathon 404 (11:00 - 14:00 h), focused on exploring how artificial intelligence can modify the results obtained in the prototypes developed. The day will end with a guided tour of the campus laboratories, where some projects will be presented, such as a smart clothing system for assistance and rehabilitation, as well as demonstrations in the GUMTS, ROBITA-LAB and DESIRE spaces .
