Which baccalaureate do you need to study Product Design?

If you want to start training in Product Design, we tell you what baccalaureate you need to have studied to be able to access this Official Degree in Product Design and what it consists of.

Is it necessary to have previous specific training?

No, if you want to study the Degree in Product Design you can do so without having to have studied a specific baccalaureate, you must meet the entry requirements set out in art.3 of Royal Decree 412/2014, nor have prior knowledge of aspects such as materials, digital manufacturing or technical drawing. All our Bachelor's Degrees start from scratch, so it is not necessary to take a specific type of baccalaureate that trains you in these areas. 

Although it is true that, due to the type of degree, it is recommended to take a bachelor's degree in the arts, you do not need to worry about your previous training to make the most of our degrees.

What will you learn in the Official Degree in Product Design?

The Degree in Product Design at UDIT is an official 4-year degree, in which you will work in all the areas that make up this discipline: art, science and technology .

During the first year of your degree, you will learn creative techniques and you will delve into the aspects of manual and digital drawing. You will work with professional software on real projects in the fields of packaging, light vehicles and household goods.

During the second year, you'll cover basic technical aspects (mechanics, kinematics, energy) , materials and three-dimensional representation of objects for design and development. You will learn user-centred design, its psychological aspects, as well as the application of ergonomics and accessibility. You will work on real design projects in areas such as furniture, lighting and accessories. 

In the third year, you will delve into the science of materials and their importance for the viability of ideas. You will work on mock-ups and prototypes, as well asbasic analysis of electronics, mechanical and structural design and Quality Management and Environmental Management systems. You will work on real projects in footwear design, consumer electronics, air, water and land transport. 

The last course will be the final step for your insertion in the labour market,you will study all the impacts of marketing, communication, management of mass production and interactive product design (sensors, motor programming), service design and robotics.

This Degree in Product Design is for you if you are a creative person with a restless mind and a passion for art, science and engineering. You have a special sensitivity towards the artistic, and you want to research, test and create new products or improve the usability of products.

What will you be able to do?

The career opportunities for the Degree in Product Design will depend on the area of specialisation or sector. 

Depending on the area of specialisation, a graduate in Product Design will be able to work in conceptual design, colour design, CMF materials and finishes, user experience design (UX), process design and prototyping, interactive digital product design, service design, strategic design, industry design, eco-design or trend research and analysis, among others.

Depending on the sector, they will be able to work in footwear design, accessories and complements, toy and leisure design in general, machine and tool design, furniture and lighting design, packaging design, technology and consumer electronics product design, sports product design, robotics design, vehicle design and mobility in general or multi-sector design, among others.

Do you want to experience Product Design before September?

At UDIT's Product Design Camp, you can find out if product design is your vocation. For two weeks, from 30 June to 11 July, you will learn the processes of creating and manufacturing prototypes, from the idea to the final mock-up. You will explore your creativity using professional 3D modelling tools, basic robotics and 3D printing of models.
