María Ying Fernández, a student of the Interior Design Degree at UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, has won first prize in the Design of the Future category of the Porcelanosa Awards in its sixteenth edition.
On this occasion, the designers had to present the project for a residence for university students; in this way, the student worked on the design of a residence conceived as an integral space that seeks to balance the individual needs of the residents with an enriching collective environment, promoting wellbeing, social interaction and sustainability.
In her proposal, María Ying opted for the use of natural colours, predominantly green and brown tones, which simulate nature and reinforce the commitment to sustainability. The project is supported by the use of ecological materials in the construction, which also responds to a philosophy of integration with the natural environment, with the aim of guaranteeing a healthy and harmonious experience.
In addition, the complex is efficiently designed to reduce the environmental impact, using renewable energy systems such as water recycling or the use of solar panels.
María Ying was already a finalist in the 15th edition of the Porcelanosa Awards, an example of her talent, which has now been recognised with the first prize, awarded by a professional jury made up of Juan Manuel Lemus, from ELZ|Arquitectos; Elsa Urquijo, from Elsa Urquijo Architects; Andrea Boschetti, from Metrogramma; Jane Maciver | MAWD, from March and White Design; and Héctor Serrano, from Héctor Serrano Studio and Borealis.
