"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams" is the common thread of 'Make a Wish', the new Spring-Summer 2023 collection by Paloma Suárez, a student of the ESNE Fashion Design Degree.
After presenting 'Bloom', her previous collection, in which she sought the resurgence of hope on the island of La Palma after the activation of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, 'Make a Wish' is an ode to the creative spirit and an impulse to keep dreaming and fighting for what we want.
The Imperial Hall of the Hotel Princesa Plaza hosted, within the OFF calendar of the MBFWMadrid catwalk, the presentation of the 'Make a Wish' collection by Paloma Suárez, in which new materials stand out, created from different superimposed textures, new fabrics, new lines and techniques, as well as new colours and a firm commitment to craftsmanship, thanks to the creation, entirely by hand, of pieces with crystals assembled one by one.
Finally, it is important to highlight the use of denim garments that are about to be discarded (upcycling), as well as the presentation of a piece developed by traditional craftswomen from La Palma using the ancient technique of "frivolité" lace. Embroidery, lace, paillettes, organza, tulle and silk make up a collection faithful to its "slow fashion" philosophy in which local manufacture and a taste for craftsmanship stand out.
"Make a Wish is one of my greatest challenges. For the first time I have presented two collections for MBFWMadrid in the same year. It is always respectful to show your work on one of the most important catwalks on the international scene," says the designer from La Palma.
"This year has been full of changes, struggle and fulfilled dreams, so 'Make a Wish' also reflects my current moment; a moment full of energy in which to continue creating and fighting to see my dreams come true," says Paloma Suárez.
Innovation, talent and creativity
Considered one of the young talents of Spanish fashion, she began creating her first hand-painted trainers at the age of 12. After finishing her studies at ESNE, at the age of 21 she was selected to present her first Prêt-à-Porter collection on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid catwalk, as well as winning the "Young Talent of the Community of Madrid" award, being named European Gold Medal for Merit in Work, Young Canarian or Ambassador of the World Biosphere Reserve of La Palma, among other notable mentions.
Paloma Suárez has conquered the street styles of fashion weeks such as New York, Milan or Madrid, she has appeared in national and international publications and her creations have appeared in several Talent Shows worldwide.
