Her professional career has been mainly in media groups, belonging to American multinationals, where she was the general manager for 10 years of The History Channel Iberia, previously leading NBC Universal Iberia and Showtime Networks. She has worked in almost all areas of television, film and advertising. In her role as CEO of these companies, she was responsible for diversification, internationalisation, audience growth and winning the most important international awards in creativity and production. She worked reporting directly to the global board for 15 years of the +20 years she was the top representative for Spain and Portugal of these companies. After the sale of The History Channel, she decided to start a new path by creating the brand Sylema, dedicated to independent consultancy and content creation, in traditional formats and branded content incorporating new technologies. Carolina has a degree in social communication from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, and a PhD cumlaude in Information Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She obtained a Master in media business management at IE, and then did an AMP (Advanced Management Program) at Insead, at the Fontainebleau campus. She was awarded a scholarship by the Israeli government for the Innovation 360 programme, did the Esade Advisors programme and the "Sustainability: Environment, Economy and Society" programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She is currently CEO of Sylema, trustee of several foundations, independent advisor, teacher, mentor and writer. She has founded several brands and is a civil and women's rights activist.
