UDIT approves the creation of its Research Ethics Committee
On 7 April, UDIT, the University of Design, Innovation and Technology, approved the creation of its Research Ethics Committee (REC), the body responsible for evaluating and approving research protocols that ensure respect for fundamental ethical and scientific principles.
The mission of this committee is to align research with international standards in bioethics and scientific integrity, to ensure the protection of participants in scientific studies, and to provide oversight, advice and ethical certification to researchers.
The UDIT Research Ethics Committee will be composed of five members: the President, who will be the Vice-Rector for Research by delegation of the Rector; the Secretary, who will be appointed by the Vice-Rector; and three members who will come from the different careers that may be interested in carrying out research projects.
All researchers requiring ethical evaluation must submit a formal application form. The UDIT Research Ethics Committee will receive these applications during the first week of each month, except for the months of July, August and September.
Once the applications have been received, the IRB will follow a previously established evaluation procedure, in which it will analyse the key ethical aspects and evaluate them, to finally proceed to vote and qualify each project or research work with a favourable resolution, a favourable resolution conditional on the correction of defects or the provision of extra documentation, or an unfavourable resolution.
The creation of this Committee is an important and fundamental step for the University to continue advancing in the field of research.
