UDIT installs its first Research Ethics Committee in ordinary session
Three studies from two research groups at the university were evaluated.
On 18 June 2025, at the Alfonso XIII Campus, the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) in a day marked by the commitment to academic excellence and responsible research, the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) held the installation of the first regular session of its Research Ethics Committee, a milestone that consolidates the institutional progress towards compliance with international and national ethical standards in scientific development.
The session was chaired by the Vice-Rector for Research, Dr. José Luis Olazagoitia, together with the secretary of the committee, Dr. Rafael Timón, and an outstanding team of members composed of Dr. María Beltrán, Dr. Pablo Nogueira, Dr. Rafael Conde, Dr. David Rosas and Dr. Eva Hurtado, with the executive support of Blanca Méndez Losi.
In this first instance, in compliance with the current protocol, three research protocols were presented for ethical validation:
- "Motion intention recognition using surface electromyography (sEMG) and electroencephalography (EEG)"[1].
- NEURO_COlab Classrooms and Urban Spaces
- Retail and Football: how is the shopping experience constructed?
These studies are being developed by the research groups DESIRe (Regenerative Integral Design) and GITDCom (Innovation and Digital Transformation of Communication), which reinforces UDIT's role as a space where science and technology advance with social responsibility and ethical rigour.
The creation of the Ethics Committee - formalised in April this year - responds to the need to provide the university with a specialised body to act as an internal validator in processes involving research with human beings, ensuring respect for their rights, methodological transparency and the ethical quality of the projects.
"This first meeting is a clear sign of our university's commitment to research that is not only innovative and technological, but also respectful and socially responsible, and with which we will continue the process of self-training in international ethical protocols," said José Luis Olazagoitia, UDIT's Vice-Rector for Research.
We invite all UDIT researchers to consult this platform and to familiarise themselves with the procedures required to guarantee the ethical rigour of their projects.
If you have any queries from the UDIT research community, you can contact the administrative department at blanca.mendez@udit.es. With this initiative, UDIT consolidates its commitment to a culture of ethical research, transparent and aligned with international standards. The Research Ethics Committee represents an essential pillar in the construction of a responsible and high quality scientific ecosystem. The entire research community is invited to consult its official website soon, stay informed and actively participate in this collective process of institutional strengthening.
