UDIT joins Alliance for Wool
The aim of this initiative is to recover and enhance the value of wool as a fundamental material of our culture, economy and heritage .
UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology joins Alianza por la Lana, an initiative that arises from the impulse of Madrid Design Festival together with a multidisciplinary group of professionals .
Its objective, which it shares with the University, is to recover and enhance the value of wool as a fundamental material of our culture, economy and heritage, recognising its essential role in our identity and in the landscape that defines us .
The Alianza por la Lana was created as an opportunity to raise awareness of the need to protect and project the future of wool produced and processed in Spain .
Thus, its main purpose is to promote actions and collaborations, such as the one just established with UDIT, which contribute to transforming the reality of the deteriorated wool ecosystem in Spain, supporting its resurgence, strengthening its presence in the market and ensuring its long-term sustainability .
This union will allow the University to be part of a collective that has design as a point of union and whose work is already being felt in the sector, with impact initiatives such as the Manifiesto por la Lana (Manifesto for Wool).
UDIT, committed to the wool sector
UDIT and Alianza por la Lana share the same focus, as shown by different initiatives developed by the University with the aim of preserving all the heritage, both tangible and intangible, around wool, as well as disseminating and implementing the culture of biodiversity, circularity and sustainability values in the fashion industry .
A close example is the Materiaexhibition , held at the Real Fábrica de Tapices, which brought together a total of 16 tapestries made by students of the UDIT Degree in Fashion Design, for which different types of wool provided by Wooldreamers were used.
Precisely, in order to get to know the raw material, its origin and, in short, the process involved in the wool cycle, more than 150 students of the Degree in Fashion Design and the Degree in Fashion Management and Communication of the University also had the opportunity to visit the wool mills of UDIT.the opportunity to visit the facilities of this Spanish wool company (located in Mota del Cuervo, Cuenca) that strives to vindicate, care for the legacy, highlight the value of this material and reflect on the place it has occupied culturally in Spain.
This initiative, for its part, has been framed within an educational project (Sustentare), which focuses its activity on promulgating and disseminating the values associated withsustainability in the broadest sense of the term, with actions that involve the creation and materialisation of textile art in the context of manipulation and craftsmanship as a vehicle for creative expression.
In addition, in the framework of the next edition of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid (February 2026), where UDIT is the only educational institution with its own catwalk show, a group of students from theeducational institution with its own fashion show, a group of students will present different proposals that highlight the versatility and potential of wool as a sustainable material in knitwear. Applying Shima Seiki technology, these designs will seek to open new value markets for this material, highlighting its innovative potential.
