A year of talent and international projection: the milestones of the UDIT Fashion Area in 2025
The Fashion Area of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, has experienced in 2025 a year marked by projects, recognitions and collaborations that reinforce the role of the university as a benchmark in training in the field of fashion .
From catwalk shows on the country's main catwalk to international awards, exhibitions, professional meetings and high-impact academic projects, 365 days in which the talent and creativity of the university's students shone brightly .
- Opening Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
UDIT shone at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid with two fashion shows that consolidate its position as a benchmark in the training of new fashion talent. In the February 2025 edition, the university presented its El Olvidocollection , developed by 29 students of the Degree in Fashion Design. Inspired by memory, the fleetingness of time and the transformation of the lived, the collection combined worn textures, fading colours and details such as frayed embroidery, showing an imaginary where what is lost coexists with what remains.
In the September edition, the university surprised with a fashion show held at the emblematic Museum of America. In this case, the students of the Degree in Fashion Design presented their collection Los Ritmos, in which, inspired by the beats of music, its link with dance and body movement or the internal rhythm of literature with its pauses and accents, they captured their imaginary in garments that play with the contrast between the ethereal and the structured, fusing artisanal techniques, unique textures and palettes that alternate vibrant shades with sober tones.
- III edition of About Fashion
This year, UDIT held the III edition of About Fashion, the week dedicated to Fashion Communication, which brought together more than 500 attendees and leading professionals from the sector, including designers, artists, creative directors and media representatives. The meeting, organised by the Degree in Fashion Management and Communication, aims to bring students closer to real experiences in the sector and encourage learning through round tables, conferences and inspiring talks.
Among the participants were figures such as fashion designer Fabio Encinar; Nacho Aguayo, creative director of Pedro del Hierro; artist Lulú Figueroa; Adriana González-Espaliu, design director of Castañer; Arancha González, commercial director of the magazine ¡HOLA!and the model and businesswoman Laura Sánchez, who shared their knowledge of design, brand strategy, marketing, communication and professional career, as well as paying tribute to Aline Romanones, Vogue USA's first correspondent in Spain.
- About Fashion Photo: Fashion Photography Week
This year, the Fashion Department has also organised About Fashion Photo, the Fashion Photography Week, a training initiative aimed at third-year students of the Degree in Fashion Management and Communication. Over the course of three days, the students took part in different shootings and practical workshops guided by renowned professionals from the fashion photography sector.
The programme included the participation of photographers such as Pedro Martínez and Nacho Pinedo, who shared their experience and accompanied the students in real photographic production processes. The week culminated with a final shooting in which the students applied the knowledge acquired by photographing the designs of their fellow students of the Degree in Fashion Design.
- Cartografía Textil, selected to exhibit at the Museo del Traje
The Cartografía Textilproject , developed by eight students and five teachers of the Degree in Fashion Design, was selected to be exhibited at the 11th edition of the Museo del Traje's Emerging Design Month. The proposal, one of the six chosen at national level, reinterprets tradition from a contemporary perspective based on ethnographic research and the personal experiences of its participants, giving rise to three looks that fuse regional costumes, symbols and imaginaries from different territories.
The exhibition proposed a dialogue between memory, creative process and final result through an exhibition space that combined physical pieces, clothing materials and digital resources such as animations and 3D modelling .
- Blanca de Bonrostro winner of the Pierre Cardin Young Designers Award
Blanca de Bonrostro, student of the Degree in Fashion Design, has been recognised with the Pierre Cardin Young Designers Award thanks to her proposal The Rounded Suit, a contemporary reinterpretation of a Pierre Cardin design from the seventies. The look, accompanied by a handmade bag and shoes made from ceramic pieces, is inspired by the creative codes of the Maison Cardin, exploring the circle, curves and the idea of movement and fluidity as a conceptual axis.
Made using traditional tailoring techniques from a sculptural and contemporary point of view, the design stands out for its use of structured crepe and a careful combination of turquoise and red colours. As the winner of this international competition, Blanca de Bonrostro will enjoy a training scholarship with the Maison Cardin design team in Paris, with her stay and expenses covered.
- Keyla Cabral, winner at the Greenwalk Awards
Keyla Cabral, also a student of the Degree in Fashion Design, has been awarded first prize in the 4th edition of the Greenwalk Awards Alicante thanks to her project Mistura, a proposal that stands out for its sustainable, artisanal and emotional approach. The design is inspired by the influence of African music on global musical culture and is materialised in a colourful look that celebrates its rhythms, structures and expressiveness.
Made entirely out of a mesh fabric made with more than 20,000 hand-dyed and hand-laid flanges, Mistura redefines the materials from a creative and responsible perspective. The project, which also recreates the print of a pictorial work by the young designer's father, has been recognised by this competition aimed at promoting emerging talent and sustainability, and will allow Keyla Cabral to enjoy a weekend course at the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London with all expenses covered.
- Fashion Design students exhibit in the Royal Tapestry Factory
For the second consecutive year, 76 first-year students of the Degree in Fashion Design exhibited their work at the Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid with Materia, an exhibition comprising 16 tapestries, produced as part of Fashion Revolution Week. The exhibition focused on merino wool as a material and intangible heritage, using pieces made with wool donated by the Spanish company WoolDreamers.
The project is part of Sustentare, the university's educational initiative focused on sustainability and the circular economy, and reflects the institution's commitment to training professionals who are aware of the cultural and environmental value of materials .
- UDIT students' designs, protagonists at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport
Since last June, five looks designed by four students of the Degree in Fashion Design have been on display in the VIP lounges of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, thanks to the collaboration between the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum and AENA. The initiative is part of a series of actions aimed at promoting Madrid as a tourist and cultural destination, and presents pieces from the Lo Fugaz and Lo Eterno collections , previously shown at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.
The proposals, inspired in works from the Permanent Collection of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, dialogue directly with art through the joint exhibition of the designs and replicas of the works that inspired them.
