AI jobs and wages will continue to grow until 2030
As it does every year, the World Economic Forum has published its "Future Jobs Report", in which it analyses the future of the labour market, in this case focusing its projections on the year 2030.
Among its main conclusions, it highlights that AI and Big Data are the skills that are growing the most, also becoming those that will have the greatest impact on companies, with 86% of the leaders surveyed anticipating the transformation of their businesses due to these technologies.
This will lead (according to the organisation) to AI becoming one of the main drivers of job creation, while recognising that it will also contribute to the decline of some roles, especially those that are more susceptible to automation. Hence, the report emphasises the importance of human-machine collaboration as an approach to technology development, rather than the replacement of human skills.
In response to this demand, companies are investing more than ever in continuous training and retraining programmes to improve the skills of their employees, with a focus on the growing importance of soft skills, such as creativity, resilience, flexibility and agility.
The new professions generated by Artificial Intelligence
But along with the necessary reskilling and upskilling caused by the introduction of artificial intelligence in companies, the transformative power of this technology is leading to the development of new professional profiles, which did not exist just a few years ago and which will be increasingly in demand. According to specialised portals such as Glassdoor and Talent.com, these are the most interesting ones:
- AI and Machine Learning specialists:this is the fastest growing role globally. These specialists are key to the development and implementation of AI systems in all types of sectors, from industry 5.0 to healthcare or professional services.
The average salary for this type of profile usually starts at €1,000, but depending on the candidate's experience and the size of the company, it can reach around €85,000.
Data Analysts and Data Scientists: these professionals are essential for analysing large volumes of data and extracting valuable information for decision-making, helping companies to identify opportunities, optimise processes and anticipate future trends.
Although the average salary in Spain for a data scientist is around 40,000 euros per year, the most in-demand senior profiles can earn around 80,000 euros.
Business Intelligence Specialists: these roles have experienced significant growth, as they are essential for analysing data, identifying patterns and providing key insights that optimise strategic decisions and improve business performance.
Also known as Business Intelligence consultants, their average salary is around 38,000 euros per year, but can go up to 70,000 euros for senior profiles.
Data Engineers: needed to build and maintain the data infrastructure that powers AI systems, ensuring quality, availability and scalability.
Professionals with less experience can start in this field with a salary of approximately €27,000 per year, while a senior profile is around €40,000.
Digital Transformation Specialists: these professionals focus on the implementation of new technologies, including artificial intelligence systems in all types of organisations.
The most common salary for these professionals in Spain is between 30,000 and 45,000 euros.
In addition, having skills related to artificial intelligence also boosts the development of other professions, such as sustainability specialists, who advise companies to reduce their environmental impact by making use of AI capabilities; robotics engineers, capable of developing increasingly intelligent automated systems; or logistics experts who rely on intelligent algorithms to ensure the efficiency of supply chains.
On the other hand, everything indicates that salaries related to professions associated with artificial intelligence will continue to grow. And here again, the Future Jobs Report is clear: 71% of employers surveyed by the international organisation consider the competition to retain talent and skills in this field as a key factor in salary policies, which, almost inevitably, will lead them to offer higher salaries.
Studying the Degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence offered by UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, offers students the opportunity to acquire all the necessary skills to become the most sought-after professionals in the coming years, responsible for many of the systems that will guide the development of companies.
