  • Saber Crear, UDIT's space at Fiesta Design, has the support of the wood manufacturing company FINSA.
  • UDIT students and alumni have collaborated in the development of the project.

UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology participates, for the first time, in Fiesta Design, the new initiative of Madrid Design Festival that invites the public to immerse themselves in the experience of design in a closer way.

Saber Crear is UDIT's proposal, developed by the alumni Elena Fernández and Mirian Palacios, founders of the Senda Interiorismo studio, who have given life to an experiential space in which students and alumni of the University have collaborated and which stands out for a regenerative design that seeks to become the protagonist and meeting point for reflection, dissemination and dialogue with the public.

With this space, UDIT wanted to represent a Zen garden or "Karensaui", that is, a dry garden of Japanese origin that aims to connect with inner serenity and reduce stress through the beauty and elegance of its own design. For its development, sand and stone (represented with two FINSA cementitious finishes) have become the main elements with which students and alumni have worked in a space that rises around a bonsai tree symbolising wisdom and the contemplation of progress.

This project has been produced thanks to the collaboration of Madrid City Council, which has allowed the pieces to be worked on in the facilities of the CIEC: the first Centre for Innovation in the Circular Economy in Madrid.

The garden also hosts the creations of UDIT product designers Sofía Martín, Elsa Gil, Livia de Prado, Natasha Paris and Paula Varela.

The space also displays four works by graphic designers Marina Pérez, Sara Muñoz, Alba Castro and Irene Marcos, which have recently been recognised at the UNESCO Design The Future 2023 awards.

Design for all audiences

Within the framework of the Madrid Design Festival and located in the Francisco Giner de los Ríos Foundation, Fiesta Design is the new environment for connection, experimentation, inspiration and discovery developed by the festival that aims to turn the city of Madrid into the design capital of the world.

In this sense, Fiesta Design offers an open programme that provides the opportunity to get to know in depth the work of design professionals through exhibitions, challenges, installations, talks and activities for all audiences.
