Although it seems like yesterday, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been setting the pace in our country for years. However, although it may seem a complex sector, there is still time to learn AI from scratch and enter a field in constant expansion that can offer great professional opportunities.

What is Artificial Intelligence and how does it work?

AI is the ability of machines to perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, but without human intermediation. This includes activities such as learning, reasoning, problem solving and understanding natural language.

So how does AI work? It is made possible through the use of algorithms that process large amounts of data, identify patterns and make decisions based on the information available to them. For example, chatbots use AI to simulate human conversations, understanding and answering questions consistently and, more interestingly, delivering increasingly personalised results.

Initial steps to learn AI from scratch

Although Artificial Intelligence has come a long way in recent years, getting up to speed is not difficult if you are clear about what you need to do to get there. Start by familiarising yourself with the most basic concepts and mastering them, then you can move on to their practical applications!

Fundamental concepts you need to know

You will be familiar with almost all of them, but we have prepared a brief guide with the most important ones so that you don't have any problems with them.

  • Algorithm:Instructions that a machine follows when solving a problem or performing a task.
  • Big Data:Large volumes of data on which it is necessary to apply advanced techniques to work with them and analyse them efficiently.
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP): Abranch of AI that focuses on the interaction between computers and human language.
  • Machine Learning (Machine Learning):This is encompassed within AI, and allows machines to learn from data without having to be explicitly programmed to do so.
  • Neural networks: Computational models inspired by the human brain that are used to recognise complex patterns.

Free tools and platforms for beginners

It is possible to find free tools that can make it easier to learn and apply AI before getting into it for good.

  • Google Colab: Cloud-based development environment that allows you to write and run Python code in the browser without installing any software.
  • TensorFlow: Open source library, also developed by Google, perfect for getting started in machine learning.
  • IBM SkillsBuild: Offers free courses on AI and other emerging technologies that can be very interesting.
  • Scikit-learn: Python library with simple and efficient tools for data analysis and data mining.

Educational resources for learning AI

Although the most advisable thing to do is to take a complete quality training course such as our Official Degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence orUDIT's Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence, perfect for working professionals who are looking to expand their skills in this sector, there are other methods that will allow you to get started from your own home.

Online courses recommended by experts

While we've mentioned some tools for learning AI from scratch, most of the resources we've looked at have been theoretical, but what if you want to apply what you've learned? Here are some tips!

  • Participate in open source projects available on platforms like GitHub to start developing your skills in real-world environments.
  • Create your own AI applications or models to solve problems that interest you, it will take you much deeper into learning about this technology.
  • Join hackathons and competitions that help you improve your skills and connect with other professionals in the sector, you can't imagine how enriching this type of networking can be!

Of course, if at some point your thing goes beyond curiosity, you have already dedicated yourself to learning AI from 0 and you want to dedicate yourself to the Artificial Intelligence sector at a professional level, at UDIT we offer you the most advanced training to turn your dreams into reality!

What career opportunities does studying robotics offer? Real-world jobs beyond simply ‘building robots’

18 June 2026

Studying robotics can lead you to design, programme, integrate and validate intelligent systems: mobile robots, connected devices, AIoT solutions, automation, human-machine interfaces, or prototypes applied to healthcare, logistics, industry, mobility, education or care. The key is not simply ‘building robots’ in the abstract, but solving real-world problems by combining software, sensors, AI, electronics and interaction design.

Knowing what prompt you give a model to produce a useful result is a skill. Knowing why that model is wrong under certain conditions, how to improve its performance with more representative training data, or what legal constraints are involved in deploying it in production - that requires another level of training.

If you are comparing artificial intelligence masters in Madrid and your question is no longer general but specific - what is the technical level of the programme, is your previous background sufficient, what is the actual workload of the master's programme like - this article is written for that.
