UDIT hosts the first edition of the university hackathon IndesIAhack
UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) hosted the first edition of IndesIAhack, the university hackathon organised by IndesIA, an association committed to the use of data and Artificial Intelligence in Spanish industry.
The event has highlighted the talent of a team of UDIT students, who have won the first prize by designing, together with experts from Ferrovial, an AI solution capable of detecting the weather conditions of the environment through images from the cameras that the company has installed in its infrastructures.
The project designed by Yanick José Medina Ruiz, from the Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence, and Pablo Menéndez-Morán, Myriam Collada Muñoz and Ignacio Lucena, from the Degree in Design and Development of Video Games and Virtual Environments, was recognised as the best among the 24 submitted by more than 100 students from 9 universities and vocational training centres, and was awarded €2,000, in an award sponsored by Microsoft.
Collaboration with universities and companies
IndesIAhack is an initiative to promote data and AI training in Spanish universities, as well as in business schools and vocational training centres. These collaborations have the additional objective of closing the existing gap between the number of professionals with expertise in Big Data and AI and the talent needs of companies and are materialised through the implementation of a series of training activities such as specialised courses, seminars and training programmes.
As Nuria Ávalos, CEO of IndesIA, pointed out at the awards ceremony, "it is not possible to advance in the application of AI without specialised talent to drive its development and implementation. At IndesIA we have taken training as a fundamental strategic pillar and therefore our mission is not only to identify the current needs of the labour market, but also to anticipate future demands. In order to be successful, collaboration with universities and vocational training centres is essential.
In addition to its commitment to training, another of IndesIA's main missions is to promote the adoption of artificial intelligence in the Spanish business sector, with the aim of improving its competitiveness and efficiency. To this end, it has set up the IndesIA Datathons, an acceleration programme where companies can access advanced technologies from IndesIA's partner technology companies and receive the necessary support to implement innovative solutions that optimise their processes and services. During 2024, 4 IndesIA Datathons have been held with the participation of more than 20 companies.
