overview

study product design and development 100% in english

The first official degree in Spain specialising in product design and development, now with an international focus and taught entirely in English. From a chair or a lamp to a pair of shoes or a car, by studying product design you’ll be able to understand how an idea becomes a reality by combining creativity, technology and a global vision, and discover that behind every object there is intention, decision-making and a unique way of understanding how we interact with the world.

At UDIT, you learn by doing from day one. You’ll work in the ProtoSpace, a laboratory covering over 1,000 m² modelled on the Airbus approach and connected to the MIT network, where technology, experimentation and eco-design are integral to the creative process. 3D printing, robotics, CNC, advanced electronics, biomaterials… an environment where you’ll take an idea from concept to finished product, using a hands-on approach that prepares you to work in an increasingly globalised industry.

And you’ll do so whilst connecting with those who are already shaping the sector, both in Spain and beyond. You’ll collaborate on real-world projects with companies such as Loewe, Dior, Iberia, Adidas and Pilma, and you’ll be able to broaden your experience through international work placements, trips and academic experiences in other countries. What’s more, you’ll have the opportunity to enter your projects into international competitions. Develop your own unique perspective, broaden your horizons and prepare yourself to design anywhere in the world.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQS

  • Because at UDIT we offer you a unique and successful approach. It is based on a commitment to creativity, innovative and up-to-date curricula, the integration of technology and innovation as a central pillar, training based on real-world projects, and the critical thinking instilled by our teaching staff.

Discover the detailed curriculum for the Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design.

  • If you come from the Spanish education system, to study this Bachelor’s degree at UDIT you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

    • You must have passed the University Entrance Examination (EVAU) with a ‘Pass’ grade.
    • Students coming from a Higher Level Vocational Training Course or FP II.
    • Students entering the programme having completed a Spanish university degree.
    • Students entering via the University Entrance Examination for those aged 25 and over, 40 and over, and 45 and over.

Students from education systems outside Spain:

    • Students from pre-university education systems in European Union Member States and countries with a reciprocity agreement.
    • Students holding the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
    • Students from foreign pre-university education systems.
    • Students with foreign university qualifications who gain admission through the recognition of their qualifications.
    • Students with official foreign university qualifications, whether completed or not, who gain admission through official recognition.

  • Yes, all the degree programmes offered at UDIT are officially recognised and internationally accredited.

You should be wary of other qualifications advertised on the market as ‘official degrees’ which are not actually official. To check whether a degree is officially recognised, you should consult the RUCT website (Register of Universities, Centres and Qualifications), an official body under the Ministry of Universities that oversees academic regulation and the official recognition of university qualifications.

  • In the 2027–2028 academic year, the first-year fee for the Bachelor in Product Design 100% in English at UDIT is €14,040 for place reservation and tuition for 60 ECTS credits. This figure comprises a €2,100 place reservation fee, which secures a place on the chosen programme, and €11,940 in tuition fees, at €199 per credit. New students also pay a one-off €500 fee to open a student file, payable only in the first year. Enrolment includes student insurance.

Tuition fees can be paid in a single instalment —between 1 and 5 September, with a 3% discount— or, for students from Europe, Latin America and Brazil, in ten monthly instalments from September to June, due on the 5th of each month. Students from other regions must pay the full amount in July, before the start of the academic year; from the second year onwards, they may also use the monthly payment plan. To reduce the cost, students can consult the current calls for UDIT’s Academic Excellence, High Academic Achievement, Young Talents and Trébol Study Support scholarships and grants, family allowances, company scholarships available for certain degrees, and any applicable government-funded scholarships. Eligibility and award amounts depend on the terms of the current call for applications.

  • The first step is to request information. You can do this via the website, by telephone on 91 555 25 28, or by email: orientación.universitaria@udit.es

The next step is to sit the placement test, the aim of which is to assess the student’s academic abilities, enabling us to identify any areas requiring extra support before the start of the course.

Once you have taken the test and been notified of your admission to UDIT, please secure your place for the coming academic year. Places are allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • If you wish to study the Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design and Development, you can do so without having completed a specific sixth-form qualification; you must meet the entry requirements set out in Article 3 of Royal Decree 412/2014, and you do not need to have any prior knowledge of subjects such as materials, digital manufacturing or technical drawing. All our degree programmes start from scratch, so it is not necessary to have completed a specific type of A-level course that provides training in these areas.

Although it is true that, given the nature of the degree, an arts-focused A-level programme is recommended, you need not worry about your prior education when it comes to making the most of our degree programmes.

  • Of course, as we offer an officially recognised degree, you can apply for all the government grants available for this type of course. Furthermore, government grants can be combined with our internal study grants; so, if you have a good academic record or creativity is in your blood, don’t hesitate to apply for them all.

  • In product design and development, students learn to:

    • Create and develop products that solve specific problems.
    • Innovate with materials and processes to improve sustainability and efficiency.
    • Design prototypes using advanced tools such as 3D printing and CAD software.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to take a product from the initial idea to market.

Product designers are responsible for the entire product life cycle, from initial research and conceptualisation through to detailed design and final production. This includes:

    1. Market and user research: Understanding users’ needs and desires to create products that are genuinely useful.
    2. Ideation and sketching: Generating ideas and visualising them through sketches and models.
    3. Prototyping and testing: Creating prototypes and carrying out tests to assess the product’s functionality and aesthetics.
    4. Production and launch: Overseeing the manufacture of the product and preparing for its market launch.
  • The Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design at UDIT lasts four years. During this time, students:

    • Complete theoretical and practical modules.
    • Undertake real-world projects in collaboration with companies.
    • Take part in international exchange programmes and work placements.

The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive education, including:

    • Design fundamentals: Foundational courses covering design theory, art and design history, and technical skills.
    • Advanced design: Specialised classes in product design, ergonomics, materials and manufacturing processes.
    • Work placements: Opportunities to work in companies within the sector and apply their knowledge to real-world projects.
    • Final Year Project (FYP): A final project demonstrating the student’s ability to design and develop a complete product.
  • On the Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design and Development, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake various projects. Here’s an example from one of our alumni, Bárbara Benayas, who presents her final-year project, ‘Desvajilla’. ‘Desvajilla’ is a range of products inspired by the Mo de Movimiento restaurant, manufactured using sustainable materials such as recycled stoneware and ash from the restaurant’s own wood-fired oven.

Discover the project in this video

  • To become a product designer, it is essential to acquire a solid, multidisciplinary education covering a range of subject areas. On our Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, we offer an innovative and practical curriculum that includes:

    • Product design and development: learn to conceptualise, design and develop innovative products that meet market needs.
    • Technology and materials: discover the different materials and manufacturing technologies used to create functional and sustainable products.
    • Ergonomics and usability: study how to design products that are comfortable, safe and easy to use.
    • Project management: develop the skills to manage design projects from the initial idea through to implementation.
    • Marketing and communication: learn how to position and communicate your products effectively in the global market.
  • All our degree programmes start from scratch, so it is not necessary to have completed a specific type of A-level.

It is true that, given the nature of our degree programmes, it is usually recommended that you complete a sixth-form course in arts or science and technology.

The purpose of the entrance exam is to gain a better understanding of the prospective student’s profile, precisely so that we can offer you personalised support and, if necessary, help you strengthen any existing skills, such as artistic drawing.

Under no circumstances should you be concerned about your prior education when it comes to getting the most out of our degree programmes.

  • A product designer’s salary varies depending on experience and the sector. On average, a junior designer can earn around €25,000 a year, whilst a more experienced professional can earn €50,000 a year or more.

    Factors influencing salary include:

    • Experience: designers with more years’ experience in the industry tend to earn higher salaries.
    • Geographical location: salaries can vary significantly between different regions and countries.
    • Industry sector: working in sectors such as technology, the automotive industry or consultancy can offer more competitive salaries.
    • Skills and specialisation: designers with specialist skills, such as sustainable design or user-centred design, may command higher salaries.

  • You will learn and master: Autodesk Fusion 360, Rhinoceros, Alias, Grasshopper, Autodesk Suite, Processing, Microsoft Office, Scratch 4 Arduino, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, V-Ray, SolidEdge, SolidWorks, KeyShot, Arduino IDE.

  • Adobe software is installed on the designated computers in the lecture theatres. From the 2025–26 academic year onwards, all UDIT students will have an Adobe Creative Cloud licence that they can use on any device, either on or off campus.
