STUDY VIDEO GAMES DESIGN 100% IN ENGLISH

If you’ve spent years imagining what it would be like to create your own video game, design worlds, build levels or bring characters and stories to life, this degree is designed for you. At UDIT, you’ll turn your passion for video games into a real career within an industry that already generates over 2,400 million euros in annual turnover in Spain. You’ll learn to create interactive experiences by combining design, art and programming whilst developing the projects you’ve always dreamed of.

You’ll experience what it’s like to be part of the industry from day one. You’ll take part in game jams, creative challenges and real-world projects, work with professional engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine, and learn alongside practising professionals. You’ll have access to specialised technical facilities, including high-performance workstations, 22-inch Wacom Cintiq tablets, audiovisual labs, a motion capture studio, 3D workstations, and VR, AR, MR and XR equipment, enabling you to develop your projects using the very same tools and workflows as professional studios.

As Spain’s first officially recognised university specialising in video games, we have created this degree programme in close collaboration with the industry so that you can learn how things really work in a professional studio. You’ll be trained by practising professionals who are creating today’s video games, and you’ll take your first steps in the sector through work placements at leading companies such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, PlayStation, Nintendo and MercurySteam. What’s more, you’ll take part in game jams, competitions and real-world projects in a state-of-the-art environment that replicates the day-to-day life of a studio, where your ideas stop being mere exercises and become real-life experiences.

FAQS

  • Because UDIT is a pioneer in university-level video game education in Spain and a well-established leader in the industry. Our commitment to creative talent has been key to training professionals who now work in studios, agencies and production companies both nationally and internationally.

We are active members of DEV (Spanish Video Game Development) and AEVI (Spanish Video Game Association); we have helped to establish the Madrid Video Game Cluster; and we collaborate with the Spanish eSports Team, amongst other strategic projects.

This new degree programme stems from direct contact with the studios: it prepares you to become a digital artist specialising in video games, with a visual, narrative and technical approach aligned with real-world production workflows. You don’t just come here to study art. You come to create it and become part of a global industry.

  • The degree programme covers a wide range of subjects, including:

    • Fundamentals of Video Game Design: you’ll learn the basic principles of design, narrative and gameplay.
    • Programming and Development: you will learn to programme in the languages most commonly used in the industry, such as C++ and Unity.
    • Graphics and Animation: advanced techniques in 3D modelling, texturing and animation.
    • Project Management and Production: you will acquire the skills to manage teams and video game development projects.
    • Innovation and Technology: the latest trends in virtual reality, augmented reality and other emerging technologies.
  • If you wish to study the Bachelor’s Degree in Video Game Design, you can do so without having completed a specific sixth-form qualification; you do not need to meet the entry requirements set out in Article 3 of Royal Decree 412/2014, nor do you need any prior knowledge of game engines, graphics software or programming languages. All our Bachelor’s degrees start from scratch, so there is no need to have completed a specific type of sixth-form course that trains you in these areas. All our Bachelor’s degrees start from scratch, so there is no need to have completed a specific type of sixth-form course that trains you in these areas.

  • Yes, all the degree programmes taught at UDIT are officially recognised and internationally accredited.

  • In the 2027–2028 academic year, the first-year fee for the Bachelor in Videogame Design & Development 100% in English at UDIT is €13,020 for place reservation and tuition for 60 ECTS credits. This figure comprises a €2,100 place reservation fee, which secures a place on the chosen programme, and €10,920 in tuition fees, at €182 per credit. New students also pay a one-off €500 fee to open a student file, payable only in the first year. Enrolment includes student insurance.

Tuition fees can be paid in a single instalment —between 1 and 5 September, with a 3% discount— or, for students from Europe, Latin America and Brazil, in ten monthly instalments from September to June, due on the 5th of each month. Students from other regions must pay the full amount in July, before the start of the academic year; from the second year onwards, they may also use the monthly payment plan. To reduce the cost, students can consult the current calls for UDIT’s Academic Excellence, High Academic Achievement, Young Talents and Trébol Study Support scholarships and grants, family allowances, company scholarships available for certain degrees, and any applicable government-funded scholarships. Eligibility and award amounts depend on the terms of the current call for applications.

  • On the Bachelor’s Degree in Video Game Design, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake various projects. Take, for example, Jesús García, Dario Muñoz and Alberto Liu, alumni of the Bachelor’s Degree in Video Game Design and Development and Virtual Environments, who talk to us about their experience working on their final-year project, *Knight Overhand*.

  • All our degree programmes start from scratch, so it is not necessary to have completed a specific type of A-level programme.

It is true that, given the nature of our degree programmes, it is usually recommended that you have completed a sixth-form course in arts or science and technology.

The purpose of the entrance exam is to gain a better understanding of the prospective student’s profile, precisely so that we can offer you personalised support and, if necessary, help you strengthen any existing skills, such as artistic drawing.

Under no circumstances should you be concerned about your prior education when it comes to getting the most out of our degree programmes.

  • The Bachelor’s Degree in Video Game Design and Development at UDIT lasts four years, divided into eight semesters. During this time, you will acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge, ensuring a well-rounded education.

  • If you come from the Spanish education system, to enrol on this Bachelor’s degree at UDIT you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

    • You must have passed the University Entrance Examination (EVAU) with a pass mark.
    • Students coming from an Advanced Vocational Training Course or FP II.
    • Students entering the programme having completed a Spanish university degree.
    • Students entering via the University Entrance Examination for those aged 25 and over, for those aged 40 and over, and for those aged 45 and over.

Students from education systems outside Spain:

In contrast, the other degree focuses on the artistic and design aspects: digital art, visual design, UI/UX, level design and storytelling.

Both programmes share the first year to provide an understanding of the entire process. From the second year onwards, you choose your specialisation and, with academic guidance, you can follow an official dual-degree pathway over five years.

Once you have taken the test and been notified of your admission to UDIT, book your place to secure your spot for the coming academic year. Places are allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Of course, as we offer an officially recognised degree, you can apply for all the government grants available for this type of course. What’s more, government grants can be combined with our in-house study grants; if you have a good academic record or creativity is in your DNA, don’t hesitate to apply for all of them.

  • UDIT does not require a minimum grade for admission to the Bachelor’s Degree in Video Game Design and Development. However, given the specialised nature of the programme, prospective students will be required to sit specific admission tests set by the university.
