What is the recommended student profile?

This master's degree is aimed at profiles with a previous background in architecture, design or engineering. It is not a programme accessible to everyone: to guarantee the quality of learning, there is a rigorous admission process that includes a personalised interview. Only candidates with a suitable profile will be admitted directly.

If you have exceptional aptitude but lack the necessary technical knowledge, you will have the opportunity to take additional training that will prepare you to successfully complete the Master's programme. This requirement reinforces our commitment to academic and professional excellence.

DRA. NADEZHDA VASILEVA

Architect by the ETS de Arquitectura de Madrid (2009), Master (2011) and PhD (2017) in Advanced Architectural Projects by the same school.

Extraordinary PhD award (2019). Visiting researcher at Waseda University (Tokyo). She combines her work as an architect with teaching, as well as work in the fields of design, photography and specialised translation.

Her research interests focus on the study of idiosyncratic cultural manifestations applied to the domestic habitat and the study of the application of materials in architecture.

Syllabus

The Master's Degree in Interior Design is divided into 60 ECTS credits and lasts one year.

Graduates of theBachelor's or Master's Degree in Interior Design may join the Official College of Interior Decorators and Designers of Madrid.

All students havefree access to Lumion rendering software licences from their classrooms and home.

Our training courses are demanding and professional. In order to access theMaster in Interior Design and follow the classes you must have a previous level in planimetry, scale and distribution of elements. After an interview with the Master's director, if you do not have the necessary knowledge of planimetry, you will be recommended a6 ECTS training complements that you will have to take before the start of the classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You will learn to conceive, develop and communicate comprehensive interior design projects by combining creativity, technical knowledge and strategic decision-making. You will work on spatial distribution, lighting, materials, construction systems, furniture, sustainability and user comfort across residential, hospitality, public, retail, ephemeral and exhibition spaces.

  • The syllabus covers the history and current trends of interior design, colour and textures, materials and construction systems, technical installations, sustainability, lighting, graphic representation, furniture design, biophilic design and user comfort. You will also develop advanced projects for residential, hospitality, public, ephemeral and exhibition spaces, complete an external internship and produce a Final Master’s Project

  • You will work with professional tools for architectural drawing, graphic representation, three-dimensional visualisation and project presentation. UDIT students have access to a Lumion rendering software licence both on campus and from home, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud tools. These resources will help you communicate materials, lighting, furniture and spatial decisions through professional plans, images and presentations.

  • You will develop comprehensive projects based on different types of spaces, including homes, hotels, public environments, exhibitions and ephemeral installations. Each project will require you to connect the initial concept with spatial planning, material selection, lighting, technical systems, sustainability and visual communication, following processes similar to those used by professional interior design studios.

  • Architecture addresses the overall conception and construction of buildings, including their structure, technical requirements and relationship with the surrounding environment. Interior design focuses on transforming and optimising the spaces people inhabit, considering distribution, functionality, atmosphere, lighting, materials, furniture and user experience. 

    The two disciplines frequently overlap, particularly in refurbishment, rehabilitation and complex spatial projects.

  • You can focus your career on residential, hospitality, retail, corporate, cultural or public-space design. Other areas include furniture, lighting, visual merchandising, exhibition design, scenography, ephemeral spaces, biophilic design and strategic spatial consulting. 

    Working with different project types during the master’s degree will help you identify the specialisation that best matches your creative and professional profile. 

  • Yes. The syllabus includes 6 ECTS of external academic internships. This experience allows you to apply what you have learned in a professional environment, understand the workflow of studios and companies, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and build contacts within the interior design sector. 

    UDIT has more than 2,400 active internship agreements with companies and institutions. 

  • Yes. The Official Master’s Degree in Interior Design is an on-campus programme taught in Madrid and is available in both Spanish and English. Studying the Master’s Degree in Interior Design in Madrid in English allows you to develop an international professional vocabulary while participating in face-to-face workshops, collaborative projects, visits and activities connected with the design industry.

  • You can develop your career in interior design, architecture or design studios, as well as in residential, hospitality, retail, corporate, cultural, exhibition or ephemeral space projects. You may also specialise in furniture, lighting, visual merchandising, biophilic design, refurbishment or strategic spatial consulting.

  • Your choice should depend on the type of projects you want to develop. The Official Master’s Degree in Product Design is especially relevant if you want to specialise in furniture, materials, prototyping and manufacturing. 

    For a stronger focus on digital products, usability and interaction, you can explore the Official Online Master’s Degree in User Experience. You can also consider the Official Master’s Degree in Fashion Marketing and Communication if your interests include retail environments, brand communication and customer experience.
