Discover Graphic Design

Ideas that take shape. Images that tell a story.

Graphic design transforms ideas into visual messages. It combines images, words, typography and movement to tell stories, build identities and help us understand the world around us. At UDIT, this field brings together graphic and multimedia design, illustration, audiovisual production, advertising and branding.

A single idea can take shape in a book, a campaign, on a screen or in a moving piece. Giving it form requires understanding its target audience, deciding what to convey and finding a language that commands attention.

Digital formats and artificial intelligence expand the possibilities for creation and production. Learning to use them involves developing your own judgement: choosing a direction, taking care with your creative vision and developing a style that is uniquely yours.

Make every piece tell a story

01 / Shaping the message

A visual identity, a poster, packaging or a digital publication. Combine typography, imagery, colour and composition to determine what catches the eye first and how the whole is interpreted. Explore, too, what happens when the design is set in motion.

Find your own way of telling the story

02 / Creating an image that tells a story

An illustration can encapsulate a story; a sequence can reveal it bit by bit. Work with drawing, characters, photography, framing and rhythm to create images with purpose and develop your own visual language.

Gives brands a voice

03 / Figuring out what to say and to whom

Understand a brand and the people it is aimed at. Find a relevant idea and give it a coherent expression: a name, an identity, a campaign or an experience. Strategy and creativity come together in every decision.

At UDIT, it encompasses graphic and multimedia design, illustration, audiovisual production, advertising and branding. The degree programmes share creative resources, but each has its own focus and curriculum.

  • Graphic design organises messages and identities using visual elements. Illustration interprets ideas and tells stories through images. • You could start with the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Design and Illustration, which combines image creation and visual storytelling. If you already hold a university degree and have a sound artistic foundation, you might want to consider the Master’s in Illustration. The choice depends on your previous qualifications and the level of specialisation you are seeking.

  • You don’t need to be at a professional level when you start. Observation, representation and creative techniques are developed during the course. Practising before you start may help; during the admissions process, we assess your profile and identify which skills you need to develop further.

  • UDIT does not require a specific type of secondary school qualification for these degree programmes. You must meet the university entry requirements and complete the admissions process. A background in the arts can provide a useful visual foundation, but your motivation and willingness to develop creative and technical skills are also key starting points.

  • You can start with degree programmes in Multimedia and Graphic Design, Audiovisual Design and Illustration, or Advertising and Brand Creation, as well as the Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia and Graphic Design. To specialise, you can choose from Master’s degrees in Graphic Design, Illustration and Branding, as well as the Online Master’s in Graphic Design.

  • It depends on your qualification and the knowledge required for each programme. Graphic Design and Illustration require a creative and technical foundation, which is taken into account during the admissions process. The Master’s in Continuing Professional Development in Branding is aimed at candidates with backgrounds in design, communication, advertising and marketing. Tell us about your background to find out which requirements apply to you.

  • The Master’s in Graphic Design places emphasis on knowledge of graphic and digital representation and tools. The Master’s in Illustration requires an artistic foundation appropriate to the specialisation. The programme management reviews each applicant’s profile during the admissions interview and may recommend additional training to bring their knowledge up to the required standard before the course begins.

  • The Master’s degrees in Graphic Design, Illustration and Online Graphic Design are officially recognised university qualifications. The Master’s in Continuing Professional Development in Branding is a university-specific qualification. If you need a specific qualification to continue your studies or to meet a requirement, please check this before making your choice.

  • Official university bachelor’s and master’s degrees in this field include work placements as part of the curriculum. Please consult the syllabus and conditions for each degree programme to find out how they are organised and what the requirements are.
